Default Can too much air be a bad thing?

Hi guys.

Was in an autoparts store and I saw this really big (about 10 inch long) air filter. Next to it was a 3" Y tube (along with assorted angled 3" tubings). I already have an Injen intake so....

I bought the filter and some of the 3" tubes, spent an hour fitting it with the Injen intake and VOILA!

Two air filters installed!

Now...it seems to me (maybe my imagination) that I'm idling at a lower RPM...and there's a split second when I make a hard accelerate where the engine seems to lag. I "think" I'm hitting 60 faster, although I can't prove it. Also I "think" cruising at ~70mph is easier. Anyhow, does anyone have an idea what sort of impact having two air filters actually will do for our cars? I mean, this is something I wouldn't try out on a 4 cylinder car, but we have V8s and [I]maybe[I] it's actually helping?

The larger the pipe (or filter) the less restriction of air to the engine. The pipe diameter would have more effect than the amount of filters (IMHO). The engine will only pull in as much as it needs at any given moment. The intake pipe and filter are just controlled restrictions. With larger piping and/or larger filter you can usually get more horsepower in higher RPM because of less restriction. The trade off is less velocity at lower RPM's which usually causes a loss in torque down low. So, bigger isnt always better. Also, your meter is calibrated to read air flow in a specific (stock) diameter pipe so dont put your meter inside a larger diameter intake pipe and expect it to run correct unless you can adjust the fuel curve.
