Never , never think about upgrade Navigation with a copy disc , i bought them 2 times, Version 7.1, thrugh this forum , my screen pops off NO DISC or Gray out or a portion of Map disappears (30% of the time), no way you can put your original disc back after you upgrade , you can get 2007 one at Carson Toyota (Lexus parts) $250 , I am waiting new Version 2008 coming in this November

I've been looking at eBay, where the going rate seems to be about $190. But due to some major changes in the Interstates around here, I too am going to wait for November.

Thanks dude, i'd rather pay full price than f up my Navi. I actually bought my lowering kit from Carson Toyota so I'll just go back in Nov to get the 2008 upgrade.

I responded to someone on Craigslist and they wanted 80 bucks for a copy of his. I'll pay reg price. I'm sure they guarantee it.

Be careful of the ones you find on eBay; they are often copies or the seller misstates which cars and which NAV systems they were made for. Even the original discs are usually a year or two old.

Angry Lesson learned the hard way!

I bought a copy of 7.x thru Craiglist for my '02. Seemed to work the first day. Just noticed this week that the "No Disk Detected" message was showing up. Now the DVD doesn't want to eject either. I paid $80 for the copy. The $250 for the real thing is lookng pretty cheap now!

I'll wait until the end of the year and order from Carson or Sewell. I have a portable Garmin Nuvi I can use in the meantime.

A good copy of a Dual Layer data DVD will work most of the time; malfunctions show up as a screen freeze, requiring a re-boot (requiring the engine to be turned off -- no fun on the highway). An average copy will work some of the time. A poor copy won't even work once. I have never tried to compress the DL to a single layer, as many people do with DVD video, but I do not think such a copy would work very well.
I'd copy a disc for my own backup purposes or for use in a second car that used the same disc (which is a legal copy, by the way), but I would never buy or sell such a disc because (besides the copyright violation) I think they are inherently unreliable. To tell if the copy is going to work well, you need to use it over the course of a few weeks, at least. Do you think your Craig's List vendor is doing that? It looks like he had you do that for yourself.
If the copy won't eject, I have no idea what's wrong, unless its a compressed single layer copy.
These new discs are expensive, but every few years I update mine with a new version from a dealer, and I don't mean from an eBay dealer.
And finally, we told you so.
