22k sounds reasonable, 24k+ is 03-04 territory IMO.

Hmm...I wonder if the next time I am buying a car I should say I'll be financing only to "change my mind" in the business office and pay cash. Won't the dealership be more willing to drop the price lower in hopes of making up for that with the profit they earn by getting me a loan? Does anyone have any opinions?
Hi ASER,

It came with a 1 month, 1k mile warrenty (where we split the cost on any repairs - this I hear is standard warrenty at used dealerships in CA). They offered an extended warrenty, but I don't believe in it -especially when I'm purcahsing one of the most reliable vehicles ever made, with low milage and it won't be driven for more than 5K miles a year...

I waited till the last minute and told them cash. But every time he asked if I would be paying cash or financing I just replied with "I'm not sure".

How willing? I think my first counter offfer was 22. Then he lowered it a few times to 23. So then we wrote up the paperwork/contreact, I gave a $500 deposit. Then I wanted a lower price after I took it to a Lexus mechanic (163 point inspection) and they said it was 50%/30% used up on brakes (Rear/Front) and Lexus told me it would cost over $800 to redo them. So my salesperson kept asking "what can I do, I can't go any lower. I told you I'm selling this one on cosignment. Do you want to get it or should I void our contract?".

I said "If you can't help me out with the brakes, then i guess I won't take it."

He said "OK, then I'll void the contract."

Then he started to unstaple my credit card reciept from the Lexus inspection paper work. I said "Hold up, what are you doing???"

He said "I want to photocopy the inspection results so I can show the owner of the car why I can't sell it for the high price he's asking. I'm gonna tell that F*er to come out here and take his car!" (I laughed )

I said "I PAID for that inspection. You're not going to take from me for free!"

So then he goes "I'll take $500 off. And that's final."

I smiled to myself and thought "OK, I was willing to go for it if he drops $250. I know Lexus dealerships certify a Lexus if they have at least 50% brake pad left on all pads. I'm close with this car, so I still have a few thousand miles to go before replacing them. With $500 off, I can use that to get the all pads back up to 100% (not at the stealership of course) - much better than the other SC I saw at the dealership with 60/50%)"

So, yeah, it took some haggling. It was kinda fun. And I just hate paying sticker price for something and then seeing it go on sale the next day. That's why I will NOT look up ads for SC430s anymore! LOL! And...please don't anyone tell me they just saw a mint black 2002 SC430 with 48K miles for only $22,499.99

now this is what you call a phenomenal deal! 26K for a car that cost 65/70K 19K miles in the past is bombdigity!
