it seems to think the key is still in the ignition or something. any idea what would cause this behavior? the remote also will not lock the doors. unlock and panic work but not the locking. related?

Sure sounds like it thinks the key is still in the ignition. What about the steering wheel automatic-retract...does that work properly? If that's giving you problems too, I'd guess it's the switch in the ignition cylinder not detecting the key's removal.
While it could be an electrical problem, it's more than likely physical. You might try some lock lubricant (with graphite). Spray some lock lube in there and stick the key in and out several times...see if you can work it lose.
The switch that says "the key's in the ignition" is at the very front of the cylinder, since the steering wheel starts to move when you JUST start putting the key in the ignition.

Or in the OTHER SC forum as this exact question came up in there and it was the sunroof being tilted. ![Woohoo](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/woohoo.gif)
Question, is there a different warning if the roof isnt closed right in the SC? Are there any warning lights or any indicators on the dash that show when this happens? Does it happen 100% of the time?
Yes it makes sense the locking wouldnt work if it thinks either the key is still in ignition or some other malfunction exists.

Yes, the Open/Close button has a red light on it. If the top is "in transition" (not totally open or not totally closed), the light is solid red. If there's a problem, the light flashes.

Checklist:
- Is the shifter in "Park"?
- Are your doors latched securely?
- Is the trunk lid secured?
- Is the headlight switch in the "Auto" or "Off" positions?
- Is the dome light switch in the "Door" or "Off" positions?
I can't think of anything else.

Oh, yeah. Sorry about that sunroof suggestion. I never know which car I'm driving, and I never know which forum I'm in. (I guess I should quit breaking those little pills in half and take the whole thing, like the doctors tell me.)
