Default Highest mileage SC430 here?

Hi all,

I have seen a similar thread in the SC400/300 forum but have yet to come across a thread in this forum (forgive me if there was one made. I searched).

Out of curiosity, who here has a SC with the highest miles?

I bought my SC430 as a daily driver and I usually drive around 30k miles per year. In the next 2-3 years my SC will have 140k miles.

Logged in 10K in past 6 months...so it looks like I'll be keeping pace with you

From what I hear, our engines are good for 350K so here's to many more years of luxurious driving

I don't think I'll live long enough to see high mileage on either of my cars. The 2004 Corvette has 21K miles. I've put only 3K on it since moving to the Seattle area two years ago. I only drive it on sunny days. Unfortunately, not a lot of them up here. The SC430, which replaces the Mazda 3 as my "daily driver", only has 22K miles on it and I expect to drive it about as much as the Corvette. I work out of a home office and it really saves money on gas. Nice commute, too.

While doing routine service on my 02 SC the service manager showed me one of the first cars sold at the dealership in 89 if I recall for 40 grand. The original owner had 419,000 on the odometer. She looked great and one could tell he took pride in his Lexus.

The dealership so the story goes offered to take the car for a week with a loaner to the owner and strip the engine and replace any worn parts in the drivetrain for no charge just to see what was worn and how much was worn.

So the story goes as told to me that the engine was clean, no loss of cylinder pressure et al................If I recall they replace 2 worn rings and a few lines and it was back to him in days.............Tranny was in supurb shape.

My tech relayed the story to me and said the engine and tranny are "bulletproof" on the SC and as long as I maintain it based on his experience with the SC and LS models you will be smiling many years later.

I queried him on the other models ie the RX.....and he smiled and said to keep the SC. I only have 35k on mine since new in 2002 and so far he is correct.
I just extended the warranty another 6 years plus 72k so by the time the car is out of warranty it will just about be 12 years old .

I don't think my wiife will qualify - she bought a 2007 used (300 mi) red SC 1 1/2 years ago and has 2200 miles on it. She absolutely loves it and drives twice as much as any car she has ever had. Previously -2001 Volvo C70 (red) -7 years=5300 mi
86 Mercedes 560 SL (red) - 12 years =19K (2 Cal to NC trips)
I have had Camrys for 20+ years and suggested the 430 and it was love at first sight. No Mercedes maintenance and 50K less than the Mercedes she wanted - WHEW!

TXFM- What repairs or malfunctions have you had so far on the SC with over 100k on the odo.?

Since my SC also is a 02 which is supposedly hand built in the first year I would be interested what has worn or been repaired. I only have 35k since new so this will be interesting in the future to compare down the road.

Let's see - had original rear bushings replaced early on as part of the unannounced fix for rear "clunking".
Replaced audio amplifier during first year.
Got rid of run flats after about 3 years due to constant tire pressure leakage and rim bending issues. Removed TPS's at that time, too.
Just had Left Rear wheel bearing replaced.
Having problems with audio center door and LCD display - for about 6 months now.
One speaker going out.
Have had trunk raisers replaced twice.
Replaced front lower control arms earlier this year - bushings shot.
Normal replacement of water pump, timing chains, etc at scheduled service intervals.
No real mechanical problems.

EDIT
Have to replace a sub control arm. On the way from Carson.

our '02 SC430 has 125K miles and you'd never guess it by looking at it. we had the windshield replaced a couple months ago, and the tech couldn't believe it. these cars really hold up well in the long run. the SC replaced a '92LS which we had driven to 215Kmiles without any major problems.

Sunny G- thats great news on the SC.........I may not live long enough to make 125k but if I do then I have knowledge that the SC will hold up.

Any parts replaced or to be on the lookout for replacement other than the standard wear items?

Keep the SC going strong.

The best think about this thread is that no one has reported problems with the top mechanism despite high mileage and age.
