I'm looking at a 2004 SC430 with 50k on it. It's Lexus certified pre-owned. serviced with oil & filter, new floormats, new wiper blades, new serpentine belt, new battery, new front brakes, four wheel alignment, new tires (bridgestone potenza runflats) and the center console was replaced because the wood trim was scratched. Supposedly the warranty is good until Nov 09. Is 30k a fair price? Thanks for any advice.

About a year and a half ago I purchased a 2003 with the same mileage. I paid $38,000 for it with the warranty. I think $30,000 is a fine deal. I don't think there's much better out there. You could wait for something that might be a $1,000 less, but it may not come. I'd go for it now if you like the car.

Thanks for info. The dealer (non Lexus) says it's lexus preowned certified and I saw the sticker in the driver door frame that states lexus certified. I'll do more research to confirm.

Yeah thought that was the case that it was a non Lexus dealer. The car may be certified pre-owned but I dont think thats transferrable unless that owner signs it over to you and in any event that date doesnt seem right if its a CPO car. I'd look into this thoroughly.

Found out the whole story. The Lexus dealer did all the previously stated work on the vehicle at 48k and their invoices show $2800 for the work. The dealer then certified as certified pre-owned. The car sat on their lot for 90 days and then went to auction. It was sold to another dealer (non-lexus) and then back to auction about 20 days later. It was then purchased by another dealer (non-lexus) where it sits now. This dealer has had it for five months and anxious to make a deal. The vehicle has 50,500 miles on it and is in real good shape. I've had a mechanic check it out and he said it's in excellent shape and all the work that had been stated as done had in fact been done. The dealer where it sits now stated that it was covered by warranty until 11/13/09 or 100,000 miles. I called Lexus and they stated that because the vehicle had been sold the certified pre-owned (3 yr / 100,000) is cancelled because it cannot be transferred. So the vehicle is out of warranty because of it's age and mileage. Since I pointed out all this information to the dealer, I can buy the vehicle for 28k, down from the 30k he previously stated. Leaning toward taking the deal. Any concerns because it's out of warranty? Thanks for any input.

Believe that's a steal. We picked up a low mileage, 04, 18 months ago for $42K,, and at your $28K - how can you go wrong after the car has been looked at by so many technicians?? Get er done... With the well known build quality of the car and its minimal break rate,, you'll have years of trouble free driving and joy!

Great price on a 2004.....I'm going to purchase one soon too. I also checked warrantydirect.com, and I priced their premium extended warranty for the 2004 model.....the price is pretty solid (I'm guessing it's because of the Lexus reliability...I priced BMWs and Mercedes, and they're easily 2x more). You got a great price....car + extended warranty will still be easily under $30k....!
