Default Sensor Longevity

I purchased my 2002 SC in the summer of 2001 making it a real old-timer in the SC world. Because I don't drive it during the winter months, it has only 19,600 miles.

Within the past few months, the right front oxygen sensor ($378), the left front oxygen sensor ($366), and the speed sensor ($375) went belly-up. So what's with these sensors? Is it use, non-use, or simply the passage of time that kills them?

Seeing all the reports, I've been wondering the same thing.

It's a second car, so I don't drive it all the time (35,000 miles.) I've had to replace one O2 sensor so far.

Until further notice though, I'm blaming it on Global Warming!

Mine's an 03' and a daily driver. It's got around 45K on the clock and I've had one O2 sensor replaced (under CPO warranty)...and 3 TPMS sensors (but that's another thread).

Ah, yes ... the Global Warmageddon.
It's why socks won't match; the tooth-stuck steak ort; the plantar wart plight; the dreaded Zygomatic Prom Zit. And most other bad things.

Both use and time will make a difference. Also be prepared to replace the TPS sometime down the road.

Tire Pressure Sensors? To he!! with them. Unless someone can give me a really good reason why they should be replaced, I have no intention of doing so. (Gladly accepting counter-arguments).

I've been using non-runflats since very nearly the beginning and I have a functioning tire gauge. Just gotta get that light out is all.

I could probably have ignored the speed sensor as well, but I'm not sure exactly what is depending on it. The oxygen sensors however, must be replaced - the car won't pass inspection if they're complaining.

Sorry, TPS=Throttle Position Sensor.
The tire pressures sensors are original? Expect those to go very soon also as they are battery operated and 8 years is running long on the same set.
