I think the new IS convertible looks great. Much better than the more expensive SC. I'll take it in a second. I wish I had waited a year so I could have gotten one. A year ago it was just rumor and I really didn't think Lexus would build it. I'll just keep my silver/ light grey IS250 for now. Maybe in a few years though...

I didn't mean to give off the impression that I dislisked the IS. I think the IS is good car and just that I personally like the SC better. It is probably a biased opinion consider I own one, but to each his own. They were both built by an amazing manufacturer and were built with different mindsets and purposes. Long story short, both are great cars.

The SC430 is truly a unique machine, an instant classic with really nothing else "identical" to it...
You can bucket the VW EOS, ISC, G37 convertible, 3-series BMW, Chrysler Sebring, C70 Volvo and Pontiac G6 in the same bucket.
What other V-8 roadster that is totally unique with a back seat like the SC430? 645CI? Mustang GT? Tough to compare those...perhaps the only one that compares the closest is the CLK500/CLK55?
The g37 convertible stands out the most to me in that crowded rear-seat hardtop convertible class.
The two seaters have an even harder time differentiating...so many good choices...350Z, Miata, Boxster, Z4, Corvette, SLK etc etc.
To me comparing the SC430 to a ISC is like comparing a RX to a LX. Or...an ES to a LS

I always put the SC430 in the same group as the SL500, 645Ci, Audi S5 convertible, Jaguar XK.....etc. Full size top of the line V8 power luxury convertible.
The IS-C is in the level of 3-series, G37.....etc, entry level luxury with V6s.
People are comparing the IS-C to the SC is because the SC is outdated and they are both hardtop convertible. Other then that, they have nothing in common.
It is like comparing a 2010 ES350 to a 2006 LS430, sure the ES got more modern features and looks much updated, but as far as design, material, construction, quality, the way it drive and feels, there is no comparison.

Test drove the new ISC, bought an older SC430. Loved the extra space in the IS, and felt the interior and over feel was great given the much lesser cost. The deal breaker for me is the mistaken glance.
A lot of times on the road, I mistake the ES for the new LS without a good look. The IS has really strong ties to the Corolla on the quick take. Of course when you really look, you can tell, but the fact that they are similar is crazy given the cost difference. The SC430 looks like nothing else, love it or hate it. The SC430 eight years unchanged still turns heads, and gets me comments wherever I go. I can also go a week without seeing another one. The IS, on every corner is just not that distinctive, and runs the risk of being outclassed by the next gen Toyotas. Look at this link and you decide.

The IS C (2.5 liter and 3.5 liter V6) and 3 Series convertible are the entry level luxury convertibles with six cylinder engines.
The Lexus SC 430 (4.3 liter V8) and the BMW 650i have V8 engines.

Agreed 100% as well. The IS C is not in the same class as the SC. That's like saying a 3 Series convertible is in the same class as a 6 Series convertible.
The IS C and 3 Series convertible are the entry level luxury convertibles with six cylinder engines.
