I read on here people saying 145 or 150 top speed... I have a 2002 SC430, zero mods, bone stock, I've had the car top 140 many times including w/ top down and I've topped the car out once (156mph) I guess, because that's what it's supposedly limited to, on I-87 South(NY) going towards NYC. The needle passed 155 but wouldn't go to 160.. This car... NOT made for that kind of speed, feels pretty unstable, like it's floating like a hovercraft at that point - not reccomended. I have a Stealth R/T Twin Turbo I've been ~170mph in and this car feels more unstable at 130mph in comparison, granted that's AWD/AWS but.......eh, just saying, high speeds = hovercraft, besides the whole "reckless driving" bit :P

Car is a bit scary over 100mph with the stock suspension and a few dips in the road. Once a proper suspension is installed the car is rock solid.

Did 90 mph with top down and wifie almost sweared NOT to let me drive it again!
But in all honesty, the SC is so beautiful and classy, I wouldn't want to abuse her.

If you daily drive on the motorways at high speeds with top down worth reading this.

Convertibles 'bad for the ears'

1TYTESC, nice. Keep safe.
Yo Pearl!
Nice to hear from you.
I am always very safe, and calculating, when high risk is involved.

Stability:
I find that the higher the speed... the more stable she rides. That cusion of air pressing down ever firmer.

I see you went with the "Current: AMG E55 (Renntech 540hp & tons of tq)".
Awesome choice my friend. I feel myself being pulled in that direction sometimes.
I am still rock'in the Lex... 135,000 miles of pure joy on her so far.

Be safe, see you at the finish line.

Peace

Could not resist, breaking rear tires loose at 40mph is something, but I maybe in another SC430 next year for a summer ride. Miss having a convertible and nothing compares from a price/value standpoint to a SC430. This time I really want to get a different color interior.

Yep, hearing loss is an issue. A friend of mine went and had his hearing check a number of years ago and the tester asked him if he drove around with his driver's window down. He responded that he did and then discovered that the tests showed that his left ear had pretty severe attenuation in several frequency bands over the hearing range. I quit driving with my windows down after that. I need to pick that up and start using ear plugs when driving with the top down though. That is good advice.

I quit the long drives with the top down when going freeway speeds a while back because I could tell that it was bad for my ears. I now have ear plugs in my center console, of course, I haven't used them yet..
