OK guys, I did it.

It took about two hours, with lots of glue residue rubbing, removing.
Thanks for the removal info. Worked like a charm.

While badge ghost images were still visible after removing all the stickum (the painted metal surface is absolutely smooth), I decided to wax the areas, believing that the ghosted areas were caused by scratches that would disappear with the waxing.

For the most part the badge ghosts goes away, except when viewed with a direct highlight on those areas. (see right photo)

How would you best remove these badge ghosts?
- clay (thought I had some, but lost/misplaced in my move awhile back)
- rubbing compound
- buffing
- or what?

Someone give me a lead on this one, please.
I'm almost there.
Next will be painting L emblem.

Jimmer, there is a good thread on painting emblems in the SC300/400 forum, one sec and I'll search it up for you

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...t=paint+emblem includes the tape you could use

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...hlight=painted

Some of the pics are no longer hosted

There are also a couple of threads on how to remove the residue / lines in the detailing forum. I searched for 'debadge' there using the advanced search feature... try it , here's one I'll let you search up others if you need them

thanks for the tip.
I've got the buffer.
I was contemplating another posts suggestion to use steel wool...

I'll go with your machine glaze polish idea.

Yeah Machine glaze is nice. You don't need a buffer for it. Get a polish applicator pad from like your local Autozone and go from there. You don't really need much to make them disappear.

Look up at the top menu bar of the main forums, right BELOW where the banner picture is with the three cars in it. Look down from the headlight of the SC430 in the picture and you'll see 'search'. You can do a global search there or go to advanced search for more specific (forum) searches.

question:

ask for 'machine glaze polish,' are we talking about polishing compound?
I picked up some 'turtle wax polishing compound and scratch remover'.

will stuff work to remove the debadged ghosted areas?

thanks. jimmer

As long as its a very very light abrasive it should do the trick, if its for heavy scratches it will not work and cut too much of the clear coat. "Machine Glaze compound" is a very very light abrasive. Its not even really all that gritty to the touch, so do a feel test on the stuff before you use it. The best way I can describe this stuff to you is like watered down tooth paste.

UPDATE:

So I tried the Turtle Wax Polishing Compound and found it scratches the surface more than it 'polishes.' (it does have the consistency of toothpaste, but the result is not acceptable)

While it did remove more of the 'debagde ghost', it didn't remove it entirely and I'm not going to push it further due to the scratchy result.

I did do a google and found the real mccoy, "Four Star Professional
Machine Glaze & Polish" from DetailCity.com. With shipping, $23.

As soon as I get it and try it out I'll post the results.

thanks again. jimmer

awesome man let me know the result. Diluting the turtle wax compound with water may have helped with the scratchiness. I didn't think of it until just now. sorry about that Jimmer!!
