Default brake options

i'm approaching 50,000 miles and my brakes probably need to be done. i want to upgrade them. but i can't fit a bbk without spacers, which i don't want to do. are there any options as far as better brake pads than stock? and would slotted rotors make much of an improvement?

Best bet would be supra TT brakes. Think Lextreme can supply them.

lextreme.com is a site

you can also usually find used TT Supra brakes if you look around
LS400 brakes are an alternative; they're slightly smaller than Supra TT but still 4pot BBK.

As far as fitment, they'll fit on your car w/out mods (though you need a different bracket for the LS calipers, I think), but you'll need front wheel offsets that will clear a typical BBK; stock wheels for SC430 won't clear them.
Also must change rotors for appropriate calipers. Slotted look nicer than stock and supposedly cool off quicker. Steel brake lines are also a good addition that's easy. GL.

Pad options are endless; Hawk HPS have worked well for me, also there's BBS-spec Hawk pads that are supposedly even better than HPS.

There's a TON of info on this subject if you s-e-a-r-c-h.

Ive herd that Supra TT brakes may not fit, the reason why ive got supra brakes on my car is because of a member who said they didnt fit on his sc430, but who knows he may have just wanted to sell em !

Any BBK options will require spacers or new wheels.

Supra TT fit perfectly, just remove or trim the dust shield. They are the best bang for the buck in braking options.

For stock brakes, just some rotors and good pads. I run Hawk HPS pads myself. Ensure the calipers are cleaned up well and brake fluid is fresh.

So the Supra TT brakes are the same size as stock? I'm not on stock wheels. But my wheels only have about 1/4" of space between the caliper and wheels. I'd probably go this direction if they'll fit. My wheels are:

Work Ryver DT3
Front 20x8.5 +35
Rear 20x9.5 +35

No, they fit (mount) , but do not clear stock wheels, not even close. They are one of if not the widest calipers available. You will need a lot of clearance to fit TT calipers. There are literally hundreds of threads on Supra brakes. Search here, GS II forum, and IS forum. There may be information or even a template to check fitment.

in that case, i'll probably just go with better pads and rotors. do slotted rotors really make much of a difference? i have full faced wheels, so you can't see them. so i don't care that they look better.

You will not notice a difference. Just ensure the calipers are cleaned up very well including the clips where the pads slide.
Break them in properly and your set.

Anybody try Toyota OEM disc pads? Seems like there might be a shared part between Toy and Lex?

Looks like better pads are my best option. I found Hawk HPS online, but I can't find anything when I search BBS. Anyone know where I can buy them?

Also, will I need new rotors at 50,000 miles?

They're made by Hawk but are BBS-spec
MVP Motorsports has them on their website; I think you'll find them under SupraTT rotors... can't remember if they are offered for SC replacements.

Rotors can wear out in less than 50k but it'd take harder than average driving to do it. It's easily possible to have them last much longer. Also, if you don't get cross-drilled rotors, they can be turned just like stocks when needed.

i still have the stock rotors. i don't drive it too hard. so i'd guess they're still good. will "performance" rotors really increase the performance? looks like they'd be another $400-$500.
