Default No override with 2008 DVD Navigation System Update Data Ver 08.1

Title says it all. At least not with the volume corner trick that I used with ver 5.1.

Apparently, this will never return, unfortunately.

Made it work while in motion.

You're running a Gen 5 Nav system, if I remember correctly. Wonder if it's gone on the Gen 3/4 systems too.

So JohnnyCake are you saying you CAN use the override, but the car has to be moving? That seems odd but welcome news. Can you confirm, please.
Thanks

No, the question was what does the override do; answer: made Nav work while in motion.

There is actually a group who is over-the-top upset about this:
www.lexusoverride.com

Habious, here's what the group site says:

With the release of 2007 models and the 6.1 Navigation software package, Lexus removed the existing 'override' that had been present in their cars since at least 2000. On older Lexus cars a useful series of on screen inputs had allowed the use of the Navigation and Bluetooth Phone systems while the car is in motion. In 2007 - 2009 Lexus vehicles there is no override.

I have a 2005 gen 4 . The overide works on mine . The only way I can make calls while I I am moving if I use any of my 18 stored one dial numbers . Can you confirm if there is another way of making calls on a 2005 otehr then using the 18 pre stored numbers

Buddy

No, phone was never part of the override.

I've heard rumours that some seller's on eBay have a hack for sale whereby you can use the old software with the new data (maps) so that the override still works. If anyone gets a line on that, definitely post the info.

This über-sucks. I REALLY want the newer maps but, I don't know if I want them at the expense of the override. My wife and I use the override fairly often (I input the override command and she does the typing).

However, based on Johnnycake's review of the new map data, I've got at least one more year with my existing map data (and override capability).

I've heard rumors of people making up hybrid disks (new map data with old Nav software) but, I'm not sure if I'm that brave.

Really is a pita. My Acura allows full functionality with no override needed. In fact, most cars allow this with the Lexus being an exception. But again, I would argue how many including myself should be meddling with buttons while driving. Odd thing is Lexus does allow certain functions which can be considered much more dangerous through the nav while driving.
