Yo guys,

The 430 cabin design is fantastic.
If there is a short coming, it's lack storage space.

Has anyone converted the current pop-up cup holder unit
so that it's a storage space?
press/depress the lid, it opens to a usable storage cavity (sans the cup holder mechanism).

Since 02 I have been wondering that as well..............IF the cup holders were out of there it would be ideal for my cigars and cell phone.

yes, that's what I was thinking, a place for my smokes.
currently, I stick 'em in one of the cup holder holes.

an open console compartment would be nice, but how to do it?
retain the pop-up door, remove the cup holder unit.

has anyone done this?
if so, how?

I have an '08 Avalon that is configured to do what you're asking - maybe.
In the console section, there is a black plastic rectangular box that has a removable insert that changes the box to dual cup holders. You pull the cup holder insert out, and basically have a 6-7" long X 3-4" wide X 3" deep box. Maybe something like that could be retrofitted to the SC.

I've stared at the pop-up device and it appears that it's really in there --
no option to remove (without some violence).
unless I'm missed something.

I've the cupholder all but useless in my '02 and now the '03. It doesn't hold cups well, so why not try something else.
I usually toss my cell in it

I am inbound after the holidays to Lexus. My Master Tech will know the answer/solution.................it is the ONLY piece on the SC I do not use or like.........when I carry a bottle of water I don't use it as it tips on turns and falls out on the floor so its worthless.
