Default PWR: 25.9 mpg?

guys,
the other day I was playing around with the PWR drive setting and found that it all but eliminates the 'acceleration lag' that's been discussed elsewhere on the site.
but the funny thing was when I reset the Info screen and after driving a while, it displayed an average miles per gallon, in the PWR setting, as 25.9.

my normal highway mpg average in the standard mode is around 21.3.
so what gives?

can this be trusted or is the trip info mpg out-of-whack once in the PWR mode?

thanks. jimmer

To be sure, you will have to go through a tank or two of gas before knowing for sure. It could be just the driving type that you encountered after making the switch (less starts and stops and more cruising at "overdrive" type speeds of 45 mph and up). I found that it didn't make much difference to me either, but I found the extra indicator lit up on the dash annoyed me, so I turned it off. I did find that after running a couple of tanks on the PWR setting (and enjoying it) was enough to change the running parameters of the ECU. So now when the lag becomes annoying enough again, I'll just run a couple of tanks on PWR to clear out that operating mode, or at least lessen it.

Blitz throttle controller eliminates all of the lag . is a neat mod . I reallu enjoy mine I use it all the time. I mounted the dash controller unside the ash tray , I keep the ash tray closed so no one knows its there.

That sound a little high for a V8 even on the highway, but you never know. If it consistent over a few tanks then you are golden and the info can be trusted

so far, my driving on the PWR setting has to do with stop and go, up and down pretty steep hills, local traffic stuff -- the same as my standard ECU driving.
it's a head scratcher. the manual says PWR=less fuel economy, but so far, it seems the opposite.
rather than adding a throttle device, if this PWR mpg proves to be true, it is the best of both worlds: very little or no lag, better mpg.

I'll report in as I go. if true, this could be big.

question: any knowable downsides to leaving it on PWR?

thanks guys. jimmer

Ironically when I added my TOMS THrottle controller my MPG went 11.5 to 13.7. I also have 3.76 gears headers and TQ and my driving is always mash the gas when the road is clear lol

maybe when you are driving in norm mode the car labours a little when changing up a gear a little early (grandpa mode)

And when you changed to pwr mode it is now changing a few hundred rpm's or 1000 rpm's more which allows the engine to be in a sweet spot for the engine not to be labouring

UPDATE:
Back to reality. As I drive in the PWR mode, the mpg has come back to earth @ 21-22 mpg, which is the standard mode average.
Seems that the INFO software is adjusting to the PWR mode output.
To date, PWR still seems like the way to go.

More as I go...

I have kept my Power Mode light on since getting the 02 in 02 ...........
Just yesterday I did a 200 mile trip on all Interstate and saw 24.6 one way and 25.7 on the return with my average speed at 78 mph.

Go figure...................does much better than my other car which is a 08 G-35S with a 6 cyl...............21 mpg at 80mph.

so it's not a cruel joke or an illusion.

that's choice, because the 430 really performs well in PWR.

nice and tight off the line at a light.

looks very promising...

it's on the center, left console.

there are three settings, providing alternate engine throttle control:
1 NORMAL (grandma/lag, toggle bar neutral)
2 PWR (power/sporty, toggle bar forward)
2 SNOW (snow/extra torque, toggle bar back)

after the first new tank of gas, the PWR mode mpg has not dropped below 21 -- all around town driving.

look'in good.

with two tanks under the belt on the PWR mode, the average mpg is +21-22.8.
equal or better gas mileage than the standard mode.
PWR is here to stay.
