Hit up either Talwang or Pearlpower. For future projects you really should do more research. Not knocking you, just saying.

I wasn't holding out, I don't have answer to your question. I got a 06' already and have no knowledge of the 5-speed car.

Just curious of where you got your 6-speed for future reference.

That is good price on a 6 speed trans but you are going to need a bit more to complete. The speedo cluster is different, shifter console, and the transmission ecu, plus the engine ecu is also different as it must work in concert with the trans ecu. All of that will easily exceed the $1200 you spent on the trans.

This does not take into account any wiring changes, vacuum changes, solenoids, etc. Engineers love to change things and must justify their jobs you know.

Keep us posted. Sounds like fun.

Default Transmission & Engine Swaps

I have no experience swapping Lexus transmissions, but I did swap the 6 cylinder Jaguar engine in a 1987 Jaguar for a Chevrolet V8 a number of years back. The job was made easier by purchasing a how to book, a running donor vehicle (1989 Camaro), doing a lot of research, and hours of troubleshooting. It took over a year with the two vehicles not running.

I don't wish to discourage you, but be prepared for the shop to finish the mechanical installation and although the transmission might shift, at least manually, the car may not run right for quite some time. If the shop has done this conversion before, you might have more success. But you probably will need to swap out some electrical components as already mentioned.

I wonder if you could take the transmission back for a full refund, sell the car "as is" and purchase a later model that already has the 6 speed transmission and other improvements like support for MP3. Someone who is handy, might be willing to buy your car and deal with the 5 speed overhaul or replace problem.

One other thing, the 6 speed is designed to work with a 3.76 rear end vs the stock 3.27 (?). In other words your car will be slower with the 6 speed installed unless you go and get a Supra TT Auto rear end. But at least your gaining LSD (could be good or bad).

Pearlpower: A good point, my Jaguar engine swap changed the ratio too and I had to live with a change in shifting characteristics as I did not want to swap the differential gears or rear end.
