Default ROOF LooSe? yours? TSB? Roof is Loose.

hello, just wanted to ask if your SC430's Roofs/' are making noises that seem to be from being loose?

....ie....going in reverse very slowly and hitting a mild incline diagonally on the rear tires causes my roof to shudder a bit. just slightly but its enough to cause me a concern. even going forwards also does it.

or going over a bump slowly, (and fast) will cause a loud band on the roof!

is there a TSB on this for the dealer to look at?
I donot want to pay close to $3000.00 in fixing this when my warranty is up.

I know this is a major concern and some are ingnoring it since our Tops go up and down and its due to being used a lot.

please help with your input. thank you.

I heard there was a post a few weeks ago about a top making noise like your describing I would do a search see what you can find . If I understood you correctly you said your car was in warranty .? I would go to teh dealer and start making complaints now while it is in warranty. If there is no TSB on the problem perhaps you have an isolated issue . I would suggest you go to dealer

C'mon..... I know for sure a lot of the '02-'04 this is happening to their roofs..... maybe the '05 also.

everyones roof here is solid/tight as a rock? ..... mine definitely isn't and is making a "thud" sound or a sound where the roof is Loose, during over a bump....the best example is what I said up above,

ie... when I'm backing up slowly, or going forward slowly on a incline and going towards the incline with one tire hitting(diagonally) the incline first, I can hear the roof move.......... anyone?

help......

The top can be adjusted but, the noises will probably come back. Suspension mods make it worse....

Check my past posts. Sorry, I get tired of writing the same things.

I think the problems you have may be due to the "loud band" you have playing up there. Fire the band and use the radio and see if that helps.

I have NO noises coming from my roof and I use it alot when I drive the car. Mine is an 2004. If your car is still under warranty, I would run to the dealership... as you stated earlier, it is costly to repair roof issues!
If you are out of warranty and are good with your hands and want to try to fix it yourself, I have the factory manual in eformat and could send you what you need! Pm me if you need it!

Loud band aside, I have been driving mine since 2001, and on many long trips, and I have never heard any such noise from the roof, which seems to me to be as tight and as quiet as the roof on a sedan. It's one of the distinguishing characteristics of this car: both smooth and quiet as a sedan, and open and enjoyable as a convertible.

My 05 roof is real tight. No "shudder or bangs", rattles, squeeks or any other noises.

Mine's the same way.

Course, I haven't done any mods to make the suspension hard either.

Wow. A problem like that... I'd just suggest taking it to the dealer if you are under warranty..

Default SC430 Roof Rattles

I had the same problem with my 2002. I took it to Lexus of Orlando and they fiddled with it and the clunking went away...for a few months and then it came back. I took it back and they told me that there was some type of a hold-down clamp in the roof that was worn that had to be replaced. It was pricy but my warranty (aftermarket) covered it (over $1700 bucks). It's really quiet now...no rattles. If you want someone to contact Lexus of Orlando have them ask for Kevin Sinker in Service.

There is a TSB (in the UK at least) on window height adjustment that can cause an occasional very loud bang which really makes you jump.

Had this done and all OK now.

I have a really steep curb between the street and my garage that I go over at an angle and straight on 2 times everytime i use the car.
My roof doesn't make any noise, and the car is getting torqued pretty good.
