See this thread https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...-then-hot.html posts #6 and 8. After doing the steps in post #6 the display will light up all of the LCD segments four times. Then any error code(s) may be displayed..... OR the system may do a self check 0-10 with the vents and blower.
Don’t be concerned if 21 and 24 come up AND you are in a garage. Those are solar sensors but they do interface with the AC?
To cancel the self test press the OFF button.
There are a number of components besides the compressor etc....and I assume you checked all of the associated fuses?

So from his diagnosis, it sounds like he thinks the compressor went bad and kind of "exploded" internally. That sent little bits of compressor into the system and in the condenser (which looks like a radiator and is in front of your radiator)
The normal remedy is to replace the compressor, the condenser and the drier & vacuum down the system. Now the real question is, did your compressor really go bad?
Do you find you meet these three criteria? https://www.yourmechanic.com/article...-ac-compressor
Out of curiosity, out of the $1600, how much did he say was parts & how much was labor?

Following VVT1Bob's pictorial instructions for the Self-Diagnostic test of pushing the AUTO and R/F switch concurrent with turning the Ignitions switch ON, I get Code 23. (Thank you VVT1Bob, I read your other posts on the looking at the fuses first. so I will also do this, but am I really up a creek and facing this expensive repair?

Just picked up my vehicle; with further detail on the AC: Mechanic stated: "The shaft of the compressor is broken. If you reach in, you can manually turn it; whereas it should have resistance tension. Somewhat rare to have this occur. Not a mouse/rat causation, just age/wear and tear. So if the compressor needs to be changed, the condenser is also replaced at the same time" The Denso (aftermarket, but producer of the OEM Lexus parts is used, they run about $300 each for the Condenser and Compressor". So that would leave $1000 as the Labor. I'm not supposed to use the Defroster as it could also trigger the Compressor to dehumidify the air, or the AC button in the meantime.

looks like he is charging you $1200 for labor. Your mechanic is very expensive.
Good Luck!

Ask the new company if you need to replace the condenser. If the compressor didn't imploded and only the shaft went bad, you can save some money by NOT replacing the condenser. There is a risk that you will have to do that in the future, but you can put it off now and take a gamble.
Usually in these circumstances the company has to:
1. Suck out all the old R134
2. Replace the compressor
3. Replace the condensor
4. Replace the Drier
5. Vacuum out all the moisture from the system
6. Add PAG Oil
7. Replace the R134 refrigerant

So I very much agree with BGW. I think this is a good time to get a second opinion. You may want to take it to an AC Specialist. They can probably get it repaired with less labor hours, since they do so many. Though we own Lexi, the repair is essentially the same as it is on a Toyota.

Hi all,, having a weird issue with my '02 SC430 AC. When input he AC on it will constantly switch between the dash vents and the floor vents,, very frustrating. Does anyone know what might be causing that? I've never seen this before in any other car I've had so I'm not sure what the deal is. Im thinking it may have something to do with the vacuum hoses but not sure. Anyone have an idea of what's going on???

Also, you can do a search on this forum for "Blend Door" This kind of sounds like your problem, so it might give you a lot of the information you are seeking.
Now sure how to do a search? Follow the first part of this post (you can skip the advanced part) https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...430-forum.html

You should start a new post about your problem. You will get a much larger response.

17 years and 95K miles ago this month I drove my 2002 off the lot. I was searching the forum about AC issues since I thought during our very hot Houston weekend that the normally ice cold AC was running a little warmer. The passenger side didn't feel as cool as the driver's side. I don't believe anyone has ever touched the AC system, I know I never had any issue with it prior to this.
This morning I stopped by a small mechanic's garage and had them check the freon level. It took 2 cans. I hope there's no leak. He asked me to drive down to a wash bay of the self service car wash right next to his shop and he soaped down the condenser, saying it was dusty.
It's back to being ice cold, crossing my fingers for no leaks.

Please keep us up-to-date on this issue. I’ve noticed mine doesn’t seem to be as cold as it use to be, but it’s still working well enough for my needs, or maybe it’s just me.

Well, the two cans of freon lasted just over a month and then one night I noticed there was no cold air at all out of the AC.
Dealership started to pressurize the system to look for a leak and they told me the compressor was leaking bad.
They replaced the compressor at 97K miles and 17 years of driving. As an aside, my 2002 has a build date of 12/2000 and I am the original owner.
