So what is a fair price?
I am actually thinking of trading my 98 gs 400 with 52k miles (a 2 owner creampuff) for a 03 sc 430. The sc is a 48k one owner miles and is at the local Lexus dealer. It is a certified car. I really like the car and the fact that is certified and really nice but dread to give up my gs. It has been a joy.
In today's economy what would a fair price for the sc be? Dealer wants $32k. I have my gs sold if I want to pull the trigger.
I can't decide.......

The Lexus dealer can do a whole lot better on price than that. I will dig up a little write up I did about dealing with a Lexus dealer and used cars.
I bought a couple months ago a 2005 SC430 in almost mint condition with only 17K miles on it for $30K. I will find that article for you.

Here is how you deal with a Lexus dealership.
I just bought a couple months ago a 2005 SC 430 in almost mint condition with only 17,000 miles on it for $30K from a Lexus dealer in my area. If buying from a dealer go into a dealer in the middle of the month and if you see something you like show intrest in the car but don't buy it then no matter what kind of "deal" they say they are giving you. When I first went in they were asking $39,900 for the car I wanted. I went home and did some internet searches on what the car was worth and the places I looked said the car was worth $38k-$41k so the dealer was in the right price range. But after going back a couple times they would only come down to $37.9k. And I knowing how bad the car industry is lately I said thank you but no thanks on that $37.9k and walked out. I waited till the end of the month and went back in on the last day of the month and got the car I wanted for $30k. Because they have to meet a quota and will drastically reduce price especially on used cars on the last day of the month to meet that quota.
If I was you I would offer between 20K-25K for the car for that year with those miles.JMO And ask for a Carfax report for that car also.
I hope this can help you and Good Luck, Cliff

There is a 2006 SC430 listed on Ebay from a well known dealer in the Cleveland area that sells lease returns cheap and it has 38K miles on it and they have a price of 29K! That is a much better deal! BTW it is Black with the Saddle interior!

I wouldn't look into that car on Ebay if I were you. The car has been in an accident which the seller did not disclose. Here is the information about the accident.
09/05/2007 WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY State Agency COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE (Case #:32325189)
When buying a car remember to research the car through AUTOCHECK not CARFAX. Carfax does not list all of the information about the car as autocheck does. And you can get unlimited access for about $25. Good luck with finding a SC430. For a 05, a decent price for both parties involved will be around $29,000 (based on kbb) but you can definitely go lower than this. I think reasonably speaking you can get it for $26,500-$27,000 without much haggling. You may be able to go a little better if you play games and/or wait until the end of the month.

I bought my 03 about a year ago for $33,000. It had 6K dounmented miles on it with custom chrome wheels. Needless to say with 6K miles it was mint condition. I think $32,000 a year later with 48K miles is way too much money. You can do better. You might consider shopping via cars.com. If you find one you like for a good price, you can have it checked out by a local Lexus dealer for about $100 dollars and if it check out shipping shouldn't be more than $700 dollars or so. Shoping cars.com opens up all SC's nation wide not just cars in your city. You must be careful and have it checked out and be very careful with the money transfer.
Good luck........
