Default Lowering springs with OEM shocks?

Anyone on here lower their SC430 with just the springs and not replace the OEM shocks? If so, how has that been working out? (ride quality etc.)

I just dont want to blow my shocks, but then again I dont want to spend $2,000+ on full coilovers.

I have no experience with springs personally

but try to look for a used set of coils, preferably Tein CS's I have them and love the ride and performance. You could pick up a used set for 500-800 depending on condition.

I did a little shopping today and I saw some Tein lowering springs, I forgot the model, but they were running for about $200. I did a little research, and I remember reading on a website that sold the springs saying "will fit and work with OEM shocks" or something along those lines. I just wanted to see if anyone has done this before and it worked out for them. Dont want to be just throwing away money or even worse ruining my baby!

S type or H type springs

both will fit, and i have seen a few people run them with stock shocks, but with the S type springs you are effectively cutting the shocks life in half, it will blow out sooner or later.

Coilovers are adjustable, so you will get a larger range of adjustability over springs

To answer your question no, they will not lower more than a coilover setup that is fully slammed

For your reference…….

S-Type Springs
Front 32mm 1.3 in
Rear 41mm 1.6 in

H-Type Springs
Front 17mm .7 in
Rear 26mm 1 in

Tein CS V2
Front: 0.2 - 1.4
Rear: 0.3 - 2.2

so the s type is the closest you get to a coilover drop

your shocks arent going to blow with springs. They should hold up fine. Your ride will be a tad bit bouncy with springs and your probably going to rub your fender liner alot more because of bounce. With coil overs/strut its stiffer so less bounce and less rubbing of fender liner. I've been through two sets of springs and coil overs. After two sets of springs I couldnt get the perfect look I wanted so I opted for coil overs. if you dont care that much just get springs its alot cheaper, i had the s techs they were actually too low for me and caused alot of rubbing so i went with h&r's which were a little too high in the front. ehh cant win them all

I have tanabe NF210 springs on. It's only a 1 inch drop approx. So far, the ride is good. Of course, it gets a bit bouncy on uneven terrain, especially on the freeway. I usually rub in front when I come across a slight dip on the freeway. Shocks are ok. They don't seem worn or anything. I think I should be good for another 60k miles or so. Hope this helps.

lowering springs will put added pressure on OEM shocks and they will eventually leak and fail. i'd be patient and wait for a set of used coilovers to show up on the classifieds. i got a set of tein cs with less than 10,000 miles on them for $800. the ride is vastly improved over stock.

I had an E30 on springs that over time went lower and lower, springs where sagging. Got to the point where I was hitting the oil pan on even small speed bumps. Ended up cracking the oil pan with oil all over the road.

Stick with the coilovers.

never change your oil and you'll save money. so don't change your oil. going cheap will cost you more in the long run.

Default Ride

Thank you Yes. I am interested in lowering my SC430. With your coilovers, how exactly did the ride vastly improve over stock?
