The factory intake is the best design. The key is getting more cold air into the stock system.
Dyno results are really nothing. It all depends on the dyno and how it was dynoed.
This is false. If you design the exhaust correctly, you can make more power. Most companies will throw in larger pipes and say its "more free flowing". This is not always the case. The proper design will allow for more volume of exhaust gasses while maintaining exhaust gas velocity. This is not always acheived by going with larger than oem piping. Its a gimic.
Generally, heat shields are used to block radiant heat. With the sc430, the manifold is there but it has its own heatshield. The heat shields used for induction type cone filters dont help with underhood temperatures. You're not trying to block radiant heat now.

what would be the best way to supply cold air other than the stock intake?

Cecil I have pretty much the same setup you have listed there, the only difference is that I have the whole oem intake still in place.
So now imagine the intake is still using the oem scoop above the radiator to get air in, then I diverted some air similar to what you have show from the grille. I also cut a good sized hole on the front face of the oem intake box, and placed heat resistant insulation around it. So that the only way air can get in, is thru the diversion I created at the grille, Now I have the intake being fed by two sources of cold cool air.

dyno is a tuning TOOL just like some tuners
and not a true instrument for measuring
And over the years there has been numerous reports that some well known tuning companies have fudged their results by altering the correction factors.
Temp, Bars, Humid %
no 2 dynos produce the same power measurement.
could solve this by computer controlled temp and humidity room, left overnight, timed controlled warmup, 3 back to back runs, do the mods, left overnight, timed controlled warmup, 3 back to back runs
but who in their mind would do that, cost is to much
and not a true instrument for measuring

My main argument from my original post is that it is highly unlikely that with the injen intake you lost 25 HP. Your shop is not the only reputable shop in the country and thus, several dynoes should have produced the similar results (we have yet to see anyone else post such results).
If your results are indeed the truth, then Injen would have gone out of business along time ago - Tuners, shops and competitors would have undeniable proof that Injen's products are not working per the advertised specifications.
Though alot of what has been said in this thread is true about cold air intakes, the stock intake and exhausts, my only argument is that it is highly unlikely there was a 25 HP drop with the intake.

Anyone else, besides me, un-install the Injen intake off their car since I posted this thread?
Since taking the Injen intake off...and going back to stock, the performance of my car is much improved!
Anyone else??
