That is what I was looking for. Thanks, that makes sense when you explain the difference between the two types. The hub centric compensates for manufacturing errors in the placement of the lug bolts. Didnt need that back in my day because you couldnt go fast enough to make a difference.....LOL

It's got nothing to do with manufacturing errors. The ring compensates for different sized hubs. Do you really think manufacturers would be allowed to have errors on something as important as wheels?

If there were no errors in the bolt circle and the nuts and the wheel holes are self centering. THERE IS NO NEED FOR ANOTHER CENTERING DEVICE!!!!!!! Think about what you are saying.

You just made my argument for NO centering rings.

Hello, I joined this forum today - I have 2002 Sc430 my friend gave me Asanti19 inch rims.
Front- 19x8.5 (35mm)
Rear- 19x9.5 (40mm or 45mm Not sure- not mentioned on the rims)

My car is stock not lowered. Can anybody recommend on tire size for front and rear. My preference is to stay with stock setup, if possible.

Thanks,

"Stock set up" is 18x8.5 and +40mm. You are not NOW "stock setup."

You should have asked this question in the tire/wheel thread.
Since the wheels you got is pretty much the same size that I have.

Here you go:
FRONT wheel size 19" DIAMETER (19" x 8.5") [+35 Offset, 5x114.3 Bolt Pattern]
Need tire size = 245/40/19 or 235/40/19
REAR wheel size 19" DIAMETER (19" x 9.5") [+40 Offset, 5x114.3 Bolt Pattern.]
Need tire size = 275/35/19 or 285/35/19

How it looks with stock suspension system.

Thank you so much for reply- it's my bad i should have posted on the tires wheels section. Do i need to lower the vehicle with the following tires and rim setup?
RONT wheel size 19" DIAMETER (19" x 8.5") [+35 Offset, 5x114.3 Bolt Pattern]
Need tire size = 245/40/19 or 235/40/19
REAR wheel size 19" DIAMETER (19" x 9.5") [+40 Offset, 5x114.3 Bolt Pattern.]
Need tire size = 275/35/19 or 285/35/19

Nope. you will have more clearance with the stock suspension than lowering the car.

Wouldn't 245/40R19 + 275/35R19 too large?

The stock is 245/40R18, so I would say the 19-inchers would be 245/35R19 + 275/30R19

Btw, anywhere to source 10J x 18 wheels with the 5x114.3 pattern?

I'm thinking about 275/35R18 at some point, which would need at least 9.5", though 10" is probably better.

more meat = more comfort. They fit fine.

the 35 & 30 profile tires, they look nice but too thin, i got rid of them for the 40 & 35 tires.

I have a 2010 SC430 - everything is stock - rims and tires.

I just want to know what size tires could I upgrade to? If I want fatter? I think I have 245's across the board - whatever stock is. Could I go 265 or 275's in the back? Or would that screw with my alignment / suspension / ride?

Thank you

Great work here by many talented people. I am a minimalist on our 08 pb. Our car has/had the oem PB rims on it that were chromed. We have two other same vintage Toyota products and all have chromed mag wheels. Our 07 solara convertible RV tow cars chromed wheels started leaking at the bead as the chrome flaked off the rims as they all will do over time.

replaced the rims with refinished painted rims.

I had a tire pulled off the sc recently to inspect the rim and as suspected they were starting to pit. So being proactive versus reactive i started looking at replacement rims. I read this thread and many others but in my testing and mods i was still trying to result in a plush firm drive with good not race car handling. I noted the 17’ use by more than a few owners. But almost all of them had stock suspension basically. Being as the strut dampening was incorrectly setup in my opinion i am retaining an 18” wheel limit.

so i went with Michelin 45 series and the MeisterR CRD struts. Even better would have been the separate compression and rebound adjustments. Lots of testing and adjusting and double the money. So not at this time.

so i looked at countless rebuilt or new wheels. The thin spokes just have a too busy of a look to me and i have not way to know if any are DOT approved. Not that that’s critical at all but a consideration.

So i narrowed the search to various kinds of oem lexus rims in the same bolt circle and bore for the hub centric design of the oem rims.

found a local set of 2016-2019 lexus rx350 18x8” as I could just change the tires over to the newer rims.

thanks to the various posts mentioning using aftermarket rims that stated a spacer will be needed to clear the front rotors. With akebono ceramic front pads the brakes are fairly strong now and very progressive and even bigger calipers, so far, are not needed for my uses and i wondered about the systems in the cars design for stability and traction controls matching the cars setup.

During the install today it turned out that if i used a 20mm thick hub centric spacer that the stock oem lugs were not long enough to allow oem style washer lugs to tighten up.

without any spacers the rear clear the caliper and the fronts barely touch the inside side of the caliper bracket.

Th e shop had a spare set of 5mm or so thick adaptors laying around that they were able to put between the newer rims and the the hub and still retain the hub centric feature of the rim and hub. At least it appears to have enough circular contact to centralize the rims mounting.

the lugs pulled torque ok and i drove the car home today and the car drove normally without any vibrations.

I am still evaluating the new looks. Not sure if the shiny black power coat is the best idea?
