Default 20" wheels on a sc430

i recently on another threat needed some assistance for a project vehicle. we are currently building a widebody sc430 and i am trying to get an idea for wheel and tire sizing. the current goal is 20x10 in the front and 20x12 in the rear, but i am trying to determine the offset for the wheel maker. not sure how to do this being i dont have my hands on the vehicle, so any assistance would be great.

also, tire size i should run on the vehicle would be helpful as well.
anyhow, all help is appreciated.
thanks
joey

Have you checked out the sticky at the top of the page by Rominl?
All the info you need there for most applications, but maybe not for that aggressive an application.

If your going with wide arches then go as crazy with offsets as your arches will allow. Cant see how anyone apart from yourself can advise you there.

I would try to determine how much the fenders extend out further than stock. Take an professional setup from the fitment guide and add the difference.

As I understand it, offsets start from the center of the wheel. If a wheel is 1" wider with the same offset it will protrude .5" outside and .5" inward. The larger the offset(+), the more the outside edge will move in away from the fender. Offsets are in millimeters (.03937).

A professional setup:
Front Standard Body: 20x9 +24
Rear Standard Body: 20x11 +36

Front with 2" Extended Widebody: 21x10 -14
Rear with 2" Extended Widebody: 21x12 - 2

Fitment Guide:
http://www.lgwnorcal.com/articles/wheelfitment.html

It looks like some custom deep dish rims. I think 20's will look small on a widebody because sometimes they even look a little small on my car. Open rims seem to look bigger than closed dish styles. BBK seems to be a must on the open rim styles.

I would like to see someone from a wheel dist. check my numbers and verify/explain.

Sincerely,

Mark (da-bizket)

Hello,

Looking for help on wheel fitment. My SC is stock OEM.

Asking advice on wheel fitment. I am looking at the following wheel setups. Would like to know which is the best fit and most aggressive look. Without modification.

Advan TC4

18 x 8.0 / 5.114.3 Offset of 45mm front

18 x 9.0 / 5.114.3 Offset of 35mm rear

or

18 x 8.5 / 5.114.3 Offset of 38mm front

18 x 9.5 / 5.114.3 Offset of 35mm rear

Thanks
JP

Hello Club Lexus fam! Just purchased an 02 with 103k New Years Eve. I'm in the market for wheels and the rears I am considering are 18x10 +10 offset with 305's. Will these poke out to much? Looking for a flush look. Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the accidental post

I dont even have the car home yet but am planing on new wheels. I cannot find anywhere what the original wheel specs are except that they are 18". I found a wheel I really like that is made by Versus (VS 626) and has the following three specs available:

18X8.5 5X112 35 73.1
18X8.5 5X114.3 40 73.1
18X8.5 5X120 35 73.1

Which IF ANY of those would fit on a stock 2006 SC430 ?
I was told by one place they could not fit my car with the VS626 and another said they could so I dont know the truth except I suspect the guy that said they would not fit was trying to up sell me to something he had in stock.

that will fit the SC430. You'll need a set of hub centric rings size 73.1mm ->60.1mm

I dont get why the hub centric rings are needed. If the wheel is made properly with tapered seats on the bolt holes and the nuts also have the proper tapered seats, then it will center itself as you tighten the nuts to the proper torque. As long as the center hole is larger than the hub and the bolt circle matches, the wheel will center. Did I miss something here?

the hub is the main one that hold your wheel not the bolts/nuts.
If you put that 73.1 wheels with out the rings your car will shake crazy

why? the nuts will center the wheel and there is nothing but the lugs holding the wheel on. The hub has no strength at all to hold the wheel. I am not just being contrary, just want to know why. VW in the old days didnt even have a hub going thru the wheel, just lug bolts and nuts. My Lola race car only has self centering holes and nuts.

That's what i learn from researching and personal experience when I didn't have hub rings with my aftermarket wheels (73.1) on the SC430.

The OEM wheels are hub-centric. While it is possible to place a lug-centric wheel on a hub-centric car, the mounter must be meticulous insuring that the lugs are actually centered in all the holes. The acorns will seat and help with centering, but torquing must be very consistent. Without a hub spacing ring to convert the lug-centric wheel to hub-centric fit, road impacts are more like to slightly shift the wheels, alter torques, and result in vibrations. There is no advantage to skipping the adapter ring and getting its advantages of easier, precise centering during mounting and enhanced stability of the mounted wheel. Add the spacer rings to make after market, lug centric wheels behave like hub-centric wheels.

[Editted to emphasize important point]
