Welcome to the club.

Now, run outside and go look at your tires, particularly the inside edges of them.

These are great cars but they eat tires. Rotate asap, and get alignment checked.

Someone had just done new tires and brakes on it. Falkens, which I've never had before. They seem to ride pretty well. Car runs straight as an arrow. Thanks for the heads up though, I will keep an eye on them.

I'm still amazed at the value of these cars used. There is nothing that compares even close for the price. XK8 was rubbish inside.

Mike,

depending on where you live (I assume Atlanta?), I can recommend Toyotechs in Chamblee for service on your car. They worked on my GS400 (before I had the SC430) for a number of years - good honest people.

Enjoy your car! If you think it was a bargain vs the XK8 to buy, it is an even better bargain once you own it!

Thanks for the rec on Toyotechs. I am in Woodstock, but I will use them.

I've looked at the maintenance schedule and it looks like I am due for the timinig belt to be changed at 90,000 miles.. Is that what everyone here goes by?

The dealer will want you to do the timing belt and w pump now.6 years or 90 thou is the change suggested.Probably cheaper at toyota but if you ever have to sell, lexus dealer records have an impact on what your car is worth to someone else.I know you just purchased yours so you will want to keep it for a long time.My 02 had 56,000 and just had all the fluids, timing belt, pump and all 4 brake pads replaced by the former owner.Over 3500.00 at the dealer and it did influence my purchase. Its really not a bad idea to get aquainted with the dealer, sooner or later some idiot light will come on and their the best at fixing it.My 6 disc player ate Marvin Gay, the dealer extracted it(with a pair of pliars)he will never sing again on that disc but at least they didn't charge me.Seems like they are friendlier every time I go in, just for little things like a bra, touch up paint new floor mats.I will say, I took the 90 ls400 to local toyota for a tranny flush, drove it afterward kicked it in to passing gear and blew tranny fluid all underneath the car. Got the car home and found 2 extra qts in the tranny. Thanks but no thanks to toyota. Good luck with your SC and welcome to the club.

The same service would run you $1000 or so at Toyota. If you're doing it to maintain your resale value, that's $2,500 you have to make up. At that's only one visit. Over the course of a few years, you'll likely be $5,000 in the hole. I'd be very surprised if anyone were willing to pay that much more for a used car just because it was serviced at Lexus. I'd leave anything major to Lexus. But Toyota is more than qualified for the simple things.

It sounds like you had a bad experience at Toyota, but I (along with many other people) have had bad experiences with Lexus. I went in for a TPS problem. They told me I needed a new tire, which was covered under warranty. It was free to me, so I said ok. I got the car back and noticed the ride was much rougher. Then I realized they'd replaced my non runflats with runflats. When I called them and told them, they denied doing it. They refused to even look at my car. When I posted about my experience here, several members wrote about bad experiences they'd had with the same dealership. So in my opinion, you don't always get what you pay for.
