Question Help please engine unidle (not steady)

My car have these symptoms but the check engine light did not glow!! except once after washing the car but went off after unbluging the batteries once.
here are the symptoms:-
1- some times unsteady idling when the car is on Parking gear.
2- When filling gas while the engine is running, unsteady idiling for secondes then it goes back to normal.
3- When fully press the acceleration padel(kick down) the engine first acts as if its going to shut down then slowly it picks up.
3- 1st and 2nd gear, the car moves slowly then 3rd and 4th gear it runs fast.

Do you think I should change the sensors? my dealer says it is the air mass-sensor as the check engine light is not ON!!! the air mass sensor costs 420$ here.
Should I replace the sensore with OEM ones or go for denso sensors? any deferencein preformance?
What are the best aftermarket sensors to buy?
Note: 3 months ago I did a major service 40000 mile
All filters are changed
all Oils and fluids are changed
all belts are changed including timing belt
Spark plugs are changed also
and many other jobs were done also

Lexus SC430 and Toyota Corolla actually use the same air mass flow sensor.
Part number 22204-15010. It is very easy to replace plus you can find a good used one on eBay for less than $100.

Personally, I will try to clean the MAF first before I buy another one.

I seem to remember from my GS long time ago that sometimes, the MAF can be cleaned. There is a strip of wire in there that acts as the sensor that can be cleaned by a carb cleaner. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

The MAS sits on the intake via 2 small screws and one electrical connector. Remove this noting the direction of the sensor as you pull it out. As you look up into the sensor with a flashlight you will see the wires up in it. Spray some sensor cleaner or carb cleaner to clean out the wires. Inspect it again. Reinstall.

Maybe my SONY computer comes a more advanced search engine since I always find things most newbies say they can't.

A great DIY post from GS forum.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/mai...and-gs430.html

A brand new MAF sensor for $130 and that seller will ship it worldwide.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3AIT&viewitem=

In case some of you have a hard time to believe your SC430 uses the same MAF sensor as the Toyota Corolla, the info below is from Lexus OEM catalog

22204-15010 $178.88
Electrical - Powertrain control - Mass air flow sensor
Mass air flow sensor, sc430 2002 - 2006

I cleaned the MAF and it did not fix the problem!! I think now the only thing to do is to change the oxygen sensores.
Only on ething I noticed after cleaning th MAF, the engine unsteady idle has reduced a little bit but at the same time the engine response time is little bit increased. when I push my feet fully on the accelerator, the car lags for seconds and then responses to the kick down.
for example, i was driving with the speedometer reading 45MPH and almost 2RPM when I suddenlly pressed the acceleration padel to maximum the RPM went back little bit and I felt like the engine is going to stop then after a second the car jumbed as if I pushed a NOS botton till I reached 70MPH with no problems at all.
I feel that if I slowly press the acceleration padel, the engine response is OK and idleing is OK. but if I press fully then there is a lag and the unidel steady engine comes on.

any more suggestion or Ideas?!

Two common ailments on this motor are the MAF and TPS (throttle position sensor). I would also reset the ECU after a MAF cleaning.

I did all of the following :-
1- cleaned the MAF.
2- Cleaned the throttle body.
3- disconnect and inspect the oxygne sensors and reconnect them.
4- checked the spark Plugs and the coils.
5- reset the ECU.

But no luck the engine is the same!!!!!!!

today am going to check if there is a leak in the exust pipes as some one told me that it might effect?!
if it did not work, I will replace all the mentiopned parts with new one although my car is only 22K Mile!!! not under warranty as am not in USA!!!

Thumbs up

finally solved; here is what i did,
first the check engine light came on again a long with the VSC/ VSC OFF. then I took it to a local shop who plugged a dignostic tool to it. the error was:-
P0171 fule trim too lean (Bank 1)
P0174 fule trim too lean (Bank 2)

I researched over the net and found that these two errors mean low petrol and air mixer( more air less fule). the symptoms are low power, slow engine response, slower take off, higher petrol consumtion, engine un idel RPM ....
cause of the problem are many but mainly it is the MAF. I tryed cleaning it but it did not work. I cleaned the throuttle body also. So I bought a toyota corrola MAF for 90$ and fixed it and evrything went back normal with more power and faster preformance.
THEN the VSC/VSC OFF light came on and could not shut it off!!!
another research led me to this procedure on this thread:- https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...ff-lights.html which i tryed and it works good
I took the car for a toughfffffff test for a 80 mile road test with a top speed of 145 mile/hour and maximum RPM on every gear from gear 1 to the last gear with EST power on and guss what?!
no problem appeared and the car is running excelent
thanks to every one helped me solving my car problem. I really love beaing a member of CL here.

Which one did you try (the VSC light on issue after changing out the MAF)? In the thread, one was jumping the wires and the other was disconnecting the battery. It's good to hear that you solved your issue and sharing the knowledge.
