Default Step by Step Rear Brake Pads Replacement?

Just went out to replace front brake pads, sensor light showing wear indication was lite on dash. Well front brake pads were fine. Returned them to store and bought rear pads.Loosen top bolt and went to loosen bottom bolt and found star indent stripped, so I went back to Toyota and ordered a new bolt in case I need to drill out old one. Yes they have a sub that is identical and a whole dollar cheaper and closer to me!

Well tomorrow I will try again, is there any step by step and or good things to know when I finally remove the caliper. There seem to be springs or keepers holding pads. I dont need new ones every pad change do I? Any help will be appreciated and good ole karma will be sent your way!

?! you shouldn't have to remove calipers to replace the rear pads. there is a metal plate at the top of caliper, shift on it and pope it out. and then you should be able to remove the stopping pin. then you can easily slide out the pads and replace with new ones!

Hey thanks, I will look again at it tomorrow, any pics of this metal clip assy.
So just screwdriver the top off and remove the pins and the pads slip out. ok I can handle that....I thought for sure caliper came off like the front and you went from there....well I always like to ask before I get the bigger hammerThank you for the quick response!

i don't have pics but i have done the gs400 which i am pretty sure is the same as the sc430 (which i looked at visually). yeah there is a metal plate at the top. you can use a flathead to help you. just find a way to slide it, it will pop out. then the pin, and you are good to go

of course, you need to find a way to push the pistons back, but i am sure you did that for the front already

I did the job and no caliper removal on the rear's...15 min job once you get the tire off! Ok so now that I changed the pads...does the sensor on the dash mean the tires are low? I did need rear pads so I dont feel too bad

Looked at front right tire and it looks low...I will check tomorrow!
Thanks BIG Rom!

You may be right, is it the tire profile with an inner sensor showing?
Kind of like Tire press.Monitoring system I should look closer at these light's. Ok now what I checked press and 1 was down more than the rest..filled up air and still have light on.

http://www.smartcarofamerica.com/for...g-light-16755/

does it look like the icon in post #5? if so that's the tps light. if you feel up the tires and make sure they are with good psi and still you have the light, that means the tps monitors are mulfunctioning. either out of batteries or they are damaged

The system resets itself, if the cause of the alarm is actual low pressure in one of your tires. Inflate all 4 to 33 lbs., and the alarm light should go off. If it doesn't, you either have a bad sensor in one or more of the wheels (likely), or a malfunction in the system itself (less likely). You can get the sensors replaced if you rather have a functioning system and a substantially lighter wallet. Or, as others have said, you can disable the system so the light goes out, and your wallet remains its' current thickness.
