Regarding the DVD price, the $265 price probably includes the dealer installing it. (A local dealer here charges about $50 to install it. Seems a bit crazy to pay that much for 5 minutes of work that an 8 year old could do.)

I would definitely recommend that you do your homework with regards to car prices. Just for grins and giggles, I'd go ahead and enter the search area for the maximum (250 or 500 miles, depending on the search engine) in the various engines that Jace listed just to get a feel for what they go for in the surrounding areas. Those are all good sources of information and you'll learn more about the car and its value through your research. You may even find that you prefer a different color combo. (There are plenty of the SC430s out there with lower mileage also.)

If nothing else, your research will give a bit more peace of mind even if you wind up sticking with the car you are looking at now. I know that it helped me. In fact, my search helped me determine which color I really wanted and wound up finding just what I wanted. That was 3 years ago and I haven't regretted it once since. When I bought my car, it was 4 years old and everyone thought that it was brand new.

Once you get it, definitely post some pictures.

Regarding the navigation DVD, keep in mind that it won't update the core software to the functionality of the newer units (unless things have changed drastically from 2005). It will update POI and maps, and some firmware (where you can't go back to older DVDs), but I don't think it changes navigation of the software.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Maybe I need to get an updated DVD myself!

I updated my 2002 to the 2008 navagation disk, and you are correct, functionality was exactly the same but some newer POIs are added, and streets that were not built in 2002 were added. Stuff like that etc.

i wrote lexus and they dodged the question. i didn't even ask about the timing belt. i simply asked if it's an interference engine or not.

Thank you for contacting Lexus Customer Satisfaction. Your concern is important to Lexus, and we appreciate the time you have taken to share your thoughts.

Although we understand the nature of your inquiry, whether the engine is a non-interference or interference engine, Lexus recommends replacing the timing belt by following the maintenance guidelines outlined in your Warrranty and Services guide. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

If you require further assistance, please respond to this e-mail, or contact Lexus Customer Satisfaction at 1-800-255-3987, Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Pacific Time.

i wrote back and said i never asked about the timing belt. that i just wanted an answer to the question. the fact they wouldn't answer it makes me think it's non-interference.

I would still see if the owners of the car your looking at want to come down on the price at all.
The car I purchased also just had all 4 Run Flat tires changed, although I want to change to a non runflat becasue i hear the ride is better, those tires are expensive so I did take it into consideration during bargaining.
Hey Jace, glad you found a car in Miami, I'm on Ebay everyday, best cars come out of TX and FL, all my cars I've purchased on Ebay were from those two states off lease. Don't know the logic why they seem to get the best conditioned cars. Good Luck

I noticed that as well, glad I live in FL, I actually bought mine in the closest major city, about 2 hours away from me, and the difference is crazy. I only found 3 sc430s for sale within 50 miles one was a 2003 with 65k miles, and they wanted like $27000. The crazy part is that they probably sold it at that price, because the customer didn't do their homework.

Timing belt is interference, anyone that has completed the job will know this as it is easy to turn the cam and feel the valves hit the piston manually.

Your talking 8 year old cars, keep your expectations realistic as they are no longer new though many here have pristine examples.
Many on the market are abused, tore up, faded paint, etc.
