I parted with my SC430 2 years ago.
If I recall, after you turn the ***** (I believe a 1/4 turn) you can then pull them into the glove box and then you should be able to drop the glove box down

Default Thank

That extra detail enabled removal in less than 5 minutes. Thanks again!

Listen to donaldp. Firstly, there seem to be different ways of doing this, depending on the year. it's probably because of knee airbags which weren't on the earlier models. So, donaldp's instructions probably apply to all models that have the knee airbags.
Mine is a 2008. The trap door is invisible. For some strange reason, my manual didn't describe it correctly. In the glove box, you can't see this trap door; you have to do it by feel. There is no handle, ***** or screws. You just push in from the bottom and slide it up until the four tabs on the bottom are exposed. Then, pull it gently out from the bottom. Finding the trap door is the hardest part of the job, which is literally a two minute job -- once you find the invisible trap door!
Many thanks, donaldp.

Behind the door is a plastic cover that once removed gives access to the air filter. Pull the filter out towards you, taking note of the direction of the elements, replace the filter and reassemble. The whole process should take two minutes. This is how my 2007 is equipped and I have the passenger side knee airbag below the glove box which makes the access half the size of older models.
This is a good write-up for the 2006-2010 models, one of which I have. It sounds like the Thread Starter has the earlier, 2000-2005, model with a different design.

FWIW, I just changed the cabin filter on my 2002 for the first time since I've owned it (May 2018). No tools should have been required, except I had to use a pair of pliers to help pull out the right (passenger side) pin - the left one was able to be popped out that quarter-inch or so with just my fingers. After dropping the glove box down far enough to the floor, I was able to easily access the filter and filter case. I did take some pictures along the way so will try to put together a PDF soon for others to reference. All in all, this should be a five-minute process the next time I change the filter - super easy. This cabin filter info was found on pp. 160-161 on the PDF manual I downloaded some time ago.

Tips: If you sit in the drivers seat to do this, I recommend you close the cupholder should it be in the open position. I also used pliers to remove the filter case as my fat fingers couldn't seem to grab the little handle well enough . Oh, and make sure you don't forget to put the filter cover back in before you reattach the glove box to the pins...oops...

As always, many thanks to the early pioneers on this thread/forum to help blaze the trail for us late arrivers!
