I took the Lexus into the Toyota Dealer to have the timing belt changed. I thought at the same time they might as well do the Camshaft seals. They just called and said that the Toyota cam gears just pop off but you have to pull the camshaft out of the Lexus to remove the grears and replace the seals. This just doesn't sound right. I thought the Toyota/lexus engine familys were the same. Any thoughts?

Update,
They replaced the timing belt, the drive belts, The crankshaft seal, The water pump and the upper and lower hoses. They said the camshaft seals were fine and left them alone. They said they never replace the tensioner or idler pulleys as they never wear out. They said they would if I wanted them replacede but they never see them go bad so I told them to pass on the pulleys.
New antifreeze and rotate and balance the tires.
$1,100 including tax.
Now the plus. They damaged the radiator doing the drive belts so they went and installed a brand new lexus radiator $662 their cost!
I am very happy with the service. Toyota of Kirkland

I would call a lexus dealer and varify this information. I believe they allways replace the tensioner and the idler pulley . I could be wrong but I would have it checked .

Too late now. The car is back and runs great. They even fixed the vibration in the fornt end by rebalancing the tires which I just had done at Les Schwab which didn't cure it. If I ever hear any noise out of the two pullys at least I can do that part myself. You never know, they might be still good at the 180,000 miles service and I will do them then. This service was a case of one day in their shop or two days in my garage. I am better off working overtime the two days and just paying the bill.
