End of Cycle models
Are there any common thoughts re whether it is good or bad to buy a model most likely to be end-of-cycle? I have a 2002 SC430 with 55000 miles and am itching for a new car. I love my SC, but had hoped for a redesign by now. The 2010 looks like an interesting option, but I am a little concerned re buying a new vehicle I know is likely the last year of the model. I also am considering an Audi S5 convertible (the recently announced R8 convertible is gorgeous, but a little steep price-wise!).
Any thoughts?

If I was in the position where I could financially afford a brand new 2010 SC, and I knew for sure it would be the last year of that model, I believe I'd wait for the newer model. That is assuming that money really isn't the issue.
Chances are, any new model changes Lexus makes in the SC will last a number of years, just like this model has. So 5 years down the line, if you wanted to sell your car, it would be a lot easier to sell one that still looks the same as the current model, as opposed to the old model, even though there would only be a year's difference. For only a bit more, someone could buy one that still could pass as new, and who wouldn't opt for that?
This is just another reason I think 430 owners still love their cars today. They can still pass as new and don't look that dated (look at the Infiniti G 37 as an example). But as soon as a car starts to look dated, I think that's when overall satisfaction starts to dwindle.

If Lexus revises the SC430's bumpers/headlights/taillights (perhaps with a slight touch of F elements), updates its engine (400hp+ to be competitive), adds a few more technological functions as mentioned in this thread and resorts to lots of LEDs, I think the design is actually capable of surviving today's shrinking market for a few more years.
.....
I know there are more than a few people here who wish the SC430 would just die for good. I, on the other hand am a big fan of this car.

Well said...Lexus would be smart to dress it up, power it up, maybe manual trans, maybe a factory supercharger....dream on and wake up Lexus!

[QUOTE=playa3uhh;4845586]I am loving the new wheels. I think I still like the Tourmalines better, but these are great standard wheels.
I'm with you, really can't beat the Tourmalines for timeless beauty !

Nice post...I agree on some more subtle changes they could have made considering it is the last run for the SC...
Is the push button start a major electrical overhaul? We can get LuxLink can't we? Why can't they add something similar from the factory?
Cooled seats would be huge! Can't they keep the cushions and adapt the skin from other Lexus cars and the wiring harness/cooling systems from them also?
Why couldn't we have gotten the Eternal Jewel?
A Panoramic Roof? Look at the ES Ultimate Luxury...again, not reinventing the wheel, just borrowing some features from other Lexus cars.
I agree on the stock wheels...best stock wheels except for the g-spiders that came on the 2007 PB. They remind me of the 19" Nismo wheels on the last generation 350Z. I believe they were Tom's wheels, right?

Wow, it's got a backup camera now. I'd give anything to have all this, especially the backup camera, iPod auxiliary, bluetooth and satellite radio. Only thing missing is there's nothing to cool my butt on a hot Texas day.
SC 2010 includes:
color LCD display with integrated backup camera
USB and auxiliary iPod® /MP3/Windows Media® Audio (WMA) port
USB Connector: Compatible music players can be connected via a USB cable, allowing you to access and control your music through the vehicle's audio system while charging the player’s batteries.
Bluetooth® audio [11] profile for wireless integration of compatible music players with in-vehicle audio system controls
XM Radio® complimentary 90-day trial subscription
