Default Question Answered The SC430 Floats

Well not really,

My Nav system is out of wack and needs to be re-callibrated every couple of days. I live in a neighborhood surrounded by lakes, and whenever I look at the NAV screen, it has me in the water.

I bought this car to feel like a race car driver, now I am a U-boat commander

I have another post asking the group about replacing the ML altogether, but any ideas on this problem. The GPS obviously works, because it stays on course for a while, but after a week it can have me as much as 30 miles off. I would hate to buy the update disk to have this problem continue. I would feel kind of silly suction cupping a $50 tomtom to this car.

Like a lot of complex issues that have multi-faceted parts, you can either buck-up and take to the dealer, or try a series of "step-care" actions to fix it.

I would start with re-setting ECU by unplugging the battery. Then I would eject the nav disc, maybe clean very carefully the disc and get a can of air spray and clean the player too.

Then I would try buying the 9.1 update and see if that helps.

Then I would....??? MMMM might have to break down then and take to the dealer.

Just my two cents...you do have some options before you take to the dealer and replace the ML yourself.

Please please please don't replace with a tomtom!

A floating SC is kinda cool if you think about it! You wouldn't be the first drop top in the water, however!!!

This will be a GPS issue, not a system issue. The upgrade couldn't hurt, but I suspect that you may have a GPS hookup issue: a grounding issue, antenna/antenna cable issue, or a noise issue that interferes with the GPS signal.
