Need help buying an '06 sc430 Pebble Beach please
Hi guys, I need some help please!
So I am finally buying my dream car. I have been going back and forth between this and the LS430, alsmot bought the LS and than saw the SC and just said I had to have the SC to be happy
So I was ready to buy a black on black, when I accidentally stumbled on a Dark Brown (I believe the official color is Tiger something..)...
Anywa, I am looking at CPO only.
The car...
--------------------------
36,000 miles
All maintenance done at the dealership.
Dealer was asking originally $41,000 but now asked for $36,000
I had previously an accepted offer for $33,200 on a black on black
06 (But across the U.S.) I told the dealer if he would match it and I wouldn't have to travel, that I would buy it right then.
He came back with $35,400, to which I respectfully declined...
The car has some dings on top of the hood with the paint chipped. I mentioned that it would rust and they said they would touch it up with touch up paint so that it wouldn't rust. Otherwise everything else is great.
To be honest I never bothered to look at the Pebble Beach in this color. Is this the going price for it? What do you guys think? Any suggestions, I really love this Tiger color, with a camel interior with dark wood.

Are you saying you were offered an '06 Pebble Beach for $35,400, and it's a CPO? If so, you might be wise to accept that, depending on how bad the dings are.
By the way, the color is called Tigereye Mica.
Here's the other '06 Pebble Beach CPO's I came up with.
http://www.lcpo.com/cpo_podetails.ps...0430&year=2006
25,000 miles - $40,950
http://www.lcpo.com/cpo_podetails.ps...0430&year=2006
35,000 miles - $39,995
http://www.lcpo.com/cpo_podetails.ps...0430&year=2006
20,000 miles - $44,768
Good luck, and welcome to CL johndoe10.

that's not a bad price. but personally, i wouldn't be happy with touch up paint going on my roof. it won't look good. i'd get quotes from a lexus certified shop how much it would cost to properly repair. my guess is in the neighborhood of $1000.

Thanks guys,
The dings are actually on top of the hood. and the pain is chipped off. I could see several other spots that were touched up on the hood with just what looks like touch-up paint since it was vrey rough to the finger...
I told the salesman about this and he said if I wanted they could touch it up some more... I mentioned that it's a CPO and it is supposed to be repaired to "Lexus Standards" and he said this is considered normal since they are just dings and it's not a new car...
He said if I did not want them to touch it up, they could re-paint the hood if I wanted but he would have to ask the manager about doing that... This is a CPO from a Lexus dealership, so wouldn't their repairmen know the best way to fix it?
I'm still looking for opinions on this.
------------------------------
Also as a side note. I saw an 06 blue on camel and espresso wood for $32,000 51,000 miles. The 1st owner leased for 3 yrs and drove 10,000 miles.
This second owner drove a total of 40,000 miles on it in 8 months. But says it was all highway miles going to work 80miles each way... It will still have waranty until march 2012...
Not sure if this is wise, I mean 40,000 miles in 8 months seems ridiculous to me.
So what do you still think about the Pebble Beach? Carfax says 2 owners but the dealership said that the lady just bought her lease out, that's why it says 2 owners. But he also said that the lady traded it in after only 8 or so months of driving it or a new convertible!
I saw all of the maintenance records and everything was done including the 30,000 miles service. Battery was replaced once, and so was the 02 sensor.

used car salesmen will tell you anything you want to hear. doesn't matter if they work for lexus. or if they're selling cars out of a motor home. if they have a body shop, it wouldn't cost them much to re-spray the hood. i would offer to pay their price if they do that and the front bumper to get all the rock chips. then take that opportunity to have paint protection installed. it's a clear film that protects against rock chips. it'll run you about $500.

I see, so if they don't have a body shop on the premises, how would I ask to take the car out to a certified shop?
Also, when you say "spray the hood" do you mean re-paint it?
I don't know if that's the best method because wouldn't that lower the re-sale value of the car if the hood has been repainted?

If they don't have a shop, I would simply ask to take it to get an estimate how much it would cost to repair.
And yes, I mean I would have them re-paint it. It won't lower the value of the car. The dings and bare metal on the hood have already done that. I would pay more for a car that is properly repaired than one that is damaged. Or one that has been half-assed patched up the way they are offering to do. Also, it most likely would not show up on carfax that the hood was repainted. And as long as it's a lexus certified shop using original lexus paint, it should be very difficult for anyone to notice the repairs. 90% of people don't know what to look for.

I would say thats a great deal for a CPO SC as well. I thought the SC's hood was aluminum, is this not the case? If it is aluminum, then the dents/chips will not rust. I am sure a dent removal company can fix it up nice, or if the hood does need to be repainted as well, I would estimate around $500.

Thbanks you again guys. I have called around a couple of more dealerships andt hey sad the paint chips are common on the SC.
Each and every one of them all said that they are not dents so a dent removal company won't be able to do anything. Only solution is to repaint it. They also said it just wouldn't look the same when repainted. (I'm thinking especially with the tiger-eye pearl color).
Also a couple have said that the Lexus Factory paint job is much better than anything they do afterwards, so it really is best to leave the factory paint and do some minor touch ups for the paint chips...

"dings" generally means dents. if you meant it just has rock chips, that's not a big deal. all cars get rock chips unless they have paint protection. langka makes a paint chip repair kit that's supposed to have better results than the touch up paint you get from the dealership. you apply it several times to slowly fill in the hole and polish it down so that it's flush. i've never used it. but i saw a thread on here a while back that had impressive results.
