Default Wheel caps.

Dear Friends,

I have a 2003 sc430 White Gold Crystal with Ecru leather interior with factory alloy (non-chrome pie plate wheels). I noticed on ebay that 5 spoke chrome center caps are sold and are not expensive. Since these center caps cover the majority of the wheel, and I am wondering if puting the chome center caps on the wheel would look good, even though the wheels themselves are non-chrome.

Any thoughts?

Be sure they are the twisty style not the thinner five star pattern from 2006 on. I don't believe I've seen THAT mixture, but take a look at some of the 2005 Pebble Beach cars...the wheels were gunmetal gray and the chrome caps...actually looked sharp.

If they are cheap enough...go for it. You can always take off and sell if you don't like. Should be about $25/each.

I did this before. Here's a pic of my car when they had the chrome center twist caps and the non-chrome wheels. It looks really good!

I did the same things (stock gray wheels chrome stars). No pics sorry, and the car is in Pa and I'm in Calif. I got mine from ebay also. They didn't come with an emblem in the center. I also got four SC emblems also from ebay, (sorry don't remember from where). They were also chrome and didn't show up on a chrome background. The choice was either paint the inner circle black or paint the SCs. I chose to paint the SCs black because I have the black emblems. Cleaned them with alcohol and spray painted, used model paint (that works with plastic). That was in 08 and they still look great. Or at least they did when we left Pa. in early January.

Lexus dealer is your best bet. P.s. For future reference: to get the caps off you just need to take off the "little" bolts on the spokes. You DO NOT have to take off the lug nuts to take off the cap.

I would take off the pie tin, then see how much room you have to work with. You might be able to use a pipe wrench, vise grips or even a hammer and a chisel in get the lock off. When using the hammer and chisel, have your safety glasses on, you are trying to turn the lock off not chop it off. You might be able to get it spinning with a few good shots. it's worth a try. If you have a piece of pipe lying around you could also jam it over the lock and try turning it that way. Might try a local tire dealer, somewhere you have dealt with in the past, they could probably help you also, if the lexus dealer is to far away. If you do get it off you can run for a while with just four lugs on, just make sure that the others are tight. Tight is tight and too tight is broke.

You can buy lock nut removal sockets like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Lock-Technolog...6016510&sr=8-7

I took all my lock nuts off immediately, since all they don't really deter pro thiefs.

I think $33. is kinda salty for a tool that you're probably only going to use once. Take to a the tire shop, and see what they will charge to do it.
