Backup Lights Fuse
Hey Ya'll! My backup lights don't work but the bulbs are good. Which fuse controls the backup lights on my SC430? I've studied the OM and shop manuals and can't determine which fuse number it is. Is it fused through the tranny? Somebody toss me a clue?
Thanks,
GKV

Okay, did several searches both on the online parts manuals and in my owner's manual, and there is no specialty designated "backup lights fuse" listed anywhere!
My best EDUCATED guess is:
Fuse 13 7.5 ampere located on on driver's side kick panel-the only thing is that this is also your tail lights and and headlight switch, so surely you would know if those are out?
OR
Fuse 31 7.5 ampere controls license plate lights located in the trunk. Perhaps you could have missed your license plate lights...and this would be linked together.
I've had reverse light failures on other japanese cars before and the switch/fuse was located on the transmission itself, but I don't see that at all on the SC430 diagrams.
Good luck and hopefully someone else knows the exact answer, but for now perhaps you can check out these two fuses without too much difficulty.
One other thing you might try is just replacing the bulbs and clean the socket out with compressed air (buy the computer keyboard air spray cleaner for $4.00 at target) and then put a little bulb grease on the new bulbs and try that. I'm sure you've probably tried new bulbs, right? You said they were good...how do you know?

According to the electrical diagram there is a 10A fuse in the Driver's Side Junction Block. The JB is located just up and behind the parking brake. Remove the kick plate door cover. You'll see a fuse diagram label on the inside of the cover. Lexus did not label it back up lights... it's labeled "D-IG 10A". If that's not the problem then it may be a wiring harness has gotten dirty or worse.

i think the fuse you seek is in the trunk fuse panel on the back left. you will see a door you slide it and pull up there are a number of fuses in there. i believe one would be for back up lights.

Greta work Bob and everyone. I failed to mention that the headlights and all other lights are working. I've got nothing dark that might be part of a back up light fuse group. Starts me thinking that if it isn't D-IG it might be a swich on the tranny case, or (gulp) in the case? Is there such a switch?
