Default NEW SC COMING!!!! Confirmed

The new SC will be coming out in mid-2014 according the article. It will be powered by a 5.0 V8 Hybrid engine and will be aimed at the Mercedes SL. Let's hope the styling and performance engineerng is accurate to that statement. I CAN'T WAIT!!! This article also mentions the Lexus GS-F expected to be revealed in 2013. Here's the short article...

It will be interesting to see what direction Lexus takes with the next-gen SC. Although I think that, if it's going to be hybrid-only, it's not looking too great...

Uhhh, a 4-year gap huh? That is way too long of a wait. Hopefully we see the next gen. SC before that. I am glad that they are keeping the car upmarket. I don't care for the hybrid powertrain though. I would prefer a combustion V8 engine only.

Also good to see that the GS-F is expected in 3-years. Although once again, I would prefer a high-output V8, so maybe the GS460 will live on into the next generation with a power boost?

personally, i appreciate the gap. our cars will be instantly dated when the new sc comes out. and it gives me time to put a few quarters in the piggy bank. if it lives up to my expectations, i'll consider buying one new.

I agree that a 4 year hiatus is too long, but the concept will likely come out in 2 years. So we won't be totally in the dark. I also wish they would offer different trim levels. They should make an SC460, SC500 and an SC-F; The lower trims with F-sport available parts. But that's my dream. Who knows if it will become reality. :/

with hybrids, you can either put the greater efficiency into better milage or better performance. so far, lexus's approach has been to improve performance. so a hybrid would probably be a good thing.

Liquid,

I agree that, in theory, hybrid systems simply make things more efficient, and do not necessarily reduce performance (or fun!). However, this is really difficult to do as the power recovery and storage systems add unnecessary weight to the car. Maybe since this is four years out they will be able to use high-capacity Li-ion to avert some of the fallbacks. Plus, I generally buy my cars for keeps, and I wouldn't want to think about the cost of replacing those batteries when they die!

Maybe to compensate for the weight additions, Lexus will use their in-house technology developed during the production of the LFA to incorporate Carbon Fiber pieces on to the new Lexus SC. Ah I can't wait!

the closest engine they have to that now is the 5.0 in the LS hybrid. it's rated at 438 hp. the non-hybrid 5 liter in the IS-F is 416. so they're getting at least a little more power out of their hybrids. hopefully, they'll come out with a next generation hybrid between now and then. maybe pushing 500 hp.

If that's the case then the new SC could possibly be called the Lexus SC600h [5.0L V8 gas with electric hybrid] (incredible!). But what if they came out with a 6.0L V10 gas engine coupled with an electric hybrid motor. According to their labeling pattern, they would call it the SC700h. hahaha, can you imagine?

Very cool they are bringing those cars out but as others have said from at least a power perspective I don't think it will compete with the cars it's trying to. I hate bmw though so if that is their main objective I really hope they come through lol. At the very least I'm sure these will look better and be nicer.
