Can someone please tell me if the above sits completely upright or slightly slanted while in the trunk. I cannot get it to sit completely stright up no matter which way I place the tire in the slot. I have to place it with the front of the rim towards the front of the car because of the rim's protrusion.
It just (by a hair) allows me to pull the tonneau cover into the slot to allow the roof to retract. The roof retracts but the bottom edge is touching the tire cover.
To anyone else who has the supra space saver rim, does your also protrude in the front? I would say the total depth of the tire on the rim is about 7 inches.
I only plan on carrying the spare on long trips (which is tomorrow).
Maybe I should just place it in the back seat?

I have no problem with my Supra TT spare. If I have time later, I'll try to remember to put it in and take some pictures but I don't normally carry it in the car since I still have run flats. Once I change over to standard tires, that may change though.

Just for FYI, the only way the factory spare-tire kit gets the tire to sit perfectly upright is with a big honkin' bolt that screws into a plate on the back inside wall of the trunk. Without this bolt in place, the spare flops forward onto the folding top tonneau cover.

It does sit at an angle and only fits in one way. I don't recall the top touching it but it is pretty tight fit. I don't have a honkin' bolt or the factory kit. It wedges in just fine.

When I install the spare in the trunk, it is a wedge fit and doesn't move. I haven't driven on a really bumpy road with it yet, but the times I have used it, it didn't budge. I don't have the spare tire kit, just the spare.

It is a "space saver spare" and it is from the 1993-1998 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo. The size is T145/70R17. Besides the Toyota Supra TT, I've heard that Acura also used that size on a 2004 TL.
In addition, another spare option that some people are using is the Mazda RX-8 spare. The difference is that it is slightly smaller than the one Lexus recommends, but it will still work in emergency situations. The size of the Mazda spare is T125/70R17. It fits very well in the little well of our trunk because it is slightly skinnier. It also comes with a vinyl cover that fits over the tire.
Here's the info on it....

You would need to check to make sure the bolt pattern is the same. Even if it is, I would actually put it on the car to make sure it clears the front brake calipers. Imagine how awful it would be if you bought one without installing it on the car and finding that it won't move.
