Default How many miles to the gallon (MPG) do you get?

I got my spark plugs changed in January, but I still get 16.8-17.2 MPG on my '02 5 speed...I do mostly highway driving...we get atleast 8 more on our '06 LS430 (mind you its the 6 speed)...

I only use premium 93 octane gas as well in my car and as an experiment I used 87 and it did NOT effect my MPG?

Is there any practical way to see improvements?

Thanks in advance and hope everyone is doing well!

That is odd. I currently get 20.7 MPG and I do about 70% city/30% highway. Maybe try to get a fuel service done (flush & refill), change the air filter, and Lucas fuel treatment to start. See if anything happens and if not let us know. GL!

I've got an '04, on the PWR setting with 22-24.4 mpg.
about 90% city.
I've reset the trip tracker a couple of time with the same result.
high octane only.
no engine or air intake cleaning here.

^Jeez I'd LOVE to get that...any reason you guys think my car is wasting so much gas? I am also not a leadfoot and barely push the car in fact I think I've only floored it 3-4 times since I've owned it...

I've replaced the air filter and cleaned the MAF sensor to no increase in MPG though the car does seem smoother since that...

I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get more mileage out of this car as I've read a lot of you guys consistently get mid-20s...

I get about 20 or so as well in my 05, 70/30 city to hwy. I drive in manual mode >50% of the time. IStoSC-try fuel injector cleaning and spark plugs? I can't remember how many miles you have on your SC. It may be time for some of the decent mileage 2002's to get plugs done. I did mine last summer on my 02 before I sold it and it made a difference in both power and mpg.

Maybe try a different brand of gas. I use Quik Trip gas...93 octane. Also perhaps play with manual mode, power mode, etc. and see if that does anything.

I would try driving in pwr mode and see if that effects your MPG, I also have a K&N air filter which might have minimal effects.

also you should only use 93 gas because it burns at a hotter temperature, which our engines are designed to burn. I've heard it is actually worse for your car to put high octane in when the car doesn't ask for it.

Thanks guys, I did the following:

64k on the car
Spark Plugs changed in January at Lexus
93 octane gas usually Shell / Mobil (not that it really matters?
Cleaned MAF sensor
Never push the car

I will now do the following:
Use car on "PWR" mode to see if more MPG

I will let you guys know if I get an increase!

Are you guys using the MPG meter on the dash to determine mileage? NOT ACCURATE! The only correct way is to take the miles driven on a tank and divide by gallons.

I am around 17 mpg.

All toyotas that have an MPG indicator are off by a few MPGs. There were several complaints on the 4runner/tundra/tacoma forums when I owned a 4runner and there is also a thread in the 2IS section that i read when I owned an IS.

That being said, last I checked my display showed 21.9 and I averaged 19.5 calculating the old fashioned way.
