Alternative to car-fax?

In considering a used sc 430, (or any used car), is ther a better source than car-fax to find a vehicles history? Are any of these servives really reliable?

autocheck is pretty good also, probably better than carfax.

Katy, what happens if someone has a car repaired and does not involve the insurance company (i.e., pays out-of-pocket)? Does the data base still get information that the car has been in an accident and repaired?
