Ok this will probably be a no brainer question.
Twice now when I have turned on the AC, there was a squealing noise-- may be the belt?, when I first turned the ac on.. just a few seconds..does that mean a worn belt, or something worse, like a part trying to freeze up?
Thanks for any insight..
Also, would this be covered under warranty? I have the Platinum warranty.

Sounds, if you'll pardon the pun, just like the accessory belt once the additional load of the AC compressor is added. Probably not covered under warranty but is a very simple DIY repair. The belt may be worn/glazed or there may be insufficient tension and thus slippage/squeal when load is applied.

Hey Katy, sounds like it's just the belt, if there was a mechanical problem with your compressor you would hear more of a chirp when the clutch engaged and more of a growl from the compressor. Just get Bob to throw a new belt on for you and your problem should be fixed!
Good luck!!

Thanks to my friends on this forum! It's nice to know what direction to go , when something new pops up!
I will talk to Bob and then if needs be, talk to the dealer..
It's so hot here I do not want to talk a chance in not having AC right now!

Hi Johnny..
Yes it's HOT! But.. Lake Havasu City is 122 today! So, when I think I have it bad, I just think of my friends that live out there!
I will escape to our little house in Payson, about 1 hour away this weekend. There it will be about 12-15 cooler. We have too much humidity right now, so it makes it worse.

Katy,
That is a classic belt noise, either the tension needs to be increased or the belt replaced. If this is the same belt as the serpentine belt (I haven't looked but heard that there is only one belt) then there are instructions here on this forum for replacing it. (I believe that Talwang posted the thread or it was updated early last year.) IIRC, folks were saying that it took all of about 15 minutes to replace it and it was not that difficult. The Gator belt they were recommending cost $30 or $40.
More than likely, you can survive with it squeaking on start up for quite some time, so it is not critical to immediately run out and replace it. Just don't wait very long or else you may need to run with the top down for your a/c or in the case of it being the only belt, you may be hoofing it...

Harold, thanks for calming me down..I can not imagine what I would do if I was stuck somewhere and the AC was to go out! It could be very dangerous out here!
