Mountain Drive
I went for my first real mountain drive yesterday and have a newfound respect for how much fun are cars can be.
My girlfriend and I decided to hike a trail near the top of a mountain, so we had a pretty good distance and altitude to cover.
I was stuck behind a couple slow moving cars when what l assume was a local car club came flying up behind me. Once the road opened up to two lanes, I decided to pass. The car club followed.
The lead car was a late 80s or early 90s Lotus. He really wanted to pass, but I was pulling away from him in the straightaways. I was being conservative in the turns for the sake of safety. But was hitting at least 80 going up a pretty significant grade.
It was actually a lot of fun through the turns. I'm lowered on Tein coilovers, which makes a huge difference. All in all, I'd say it's easily the most fun I've had in my car.
I didn't take any pics of the car. It had been rained on the day before, so I didn't think it was worth it. But here are a few from the hike.

Thanks. It was 103 in the valley. And about 85 up in the mountains. There was a lot of tree cover so it was a really nice hike. The elevation is a little over 10,000 feet.

Damn.. 10,000 ft??
Isnt that like 2000 ft higher than halfdome?
Gotta be in some good condition for hiking that high.
Athletes are always complaining about going to denver and utah because of their elevation...and its closer to 5000

Yeah, it's a little higher than halfdome. It's not easy. I was sucking wind in a couple spots. But the city itself is over a mile high, so it's not a total shock.

I'm in New Mexico now. It's probably not that far from you. It's the backside of the Sandia Mountains. If you're looking for a weekend getaway, I'd suggest staying in Santa Fe. You could do the Sandias from there. Or there's a ton of good hiking all around Santa Fe. Plus it's a cool little town.
I'm probably going white water rafting in Taos this weekend. I'll try to get some pics up there.
