Anyone ever replace exhaust system due to damage?
So, I backed up into an inordinately high curb last week and bent my drivers side exhaust tip, the pipe that goes to the muffler, and the pipe that goes from the exhaust assembly to the front exhaust assembly.
Basically 17408, 17430, and 17420 where it splits off from the baffle goes down to the drivers side, just to the left of the circled 2. Anyone care to take a guess at how much this is going to cost me? Anyone else ever had to replace their exhaust system (with a stock/OEM one)?
Also, is this something I could claim insurance for? I'm not sure how that works, since I wasn't in an 'accident' with another car. But, this was an accident. Not sure.
Any insight would be extremely helpful.

Pole Position
What you have described is certainly an accident and it could happen to anyone. You will want to determine if you have what's usually called "collision" coverage. That covers things like driving into objects with no other vehicles involved. A policy with collision coverage should pay up to your coverage limit minus the deductable amount. Given that you've clobbered a Lexus you may bear a lot of cost if you have a high deductable. I hope this part works out favorably for you.
If this happened to my '02 and I had to pay out-of-pocket, in addition to getting repair estimates from dealers I would also be tempted to visit an exhaust shop that does custom work (that can bend pipe) to see if it could be restored by manipulating the tubing back into shape without destroying the integrity of the exhaust system.

Oh about a grand for parts a couple hundred more in labor if your don't do it yourself. I suspect you'd report a claim like any other collision. For example if you drove into large pole and damaged the front bumper and fender. Many collisions occur during backing, it, unfortunately, is not that unusual.
