Default To debadge or not, that is the question

I was thinking about taking the "sc 430" and the "Lexus" badges from the rear. I would leave the Lexus logo though. What do you all think? Do you have a preference?

You could do a search and see if you can find some pics of cars that have had it done. Then you can make up your mind if you like it or not. And if you do take them off you can always get some 3m tape and put them back on. Some or all.

Steady is correct...there have been threads is past on this with photos. It's not too difficult to remove those emblems with some mono-filament line and a couple of block of wood. You may run into a very slight color difference depending on the your car's color. And as you've probably realized the center Lexus "L" logo is actually in a depression with two alignment holes in the trunk lid. If it was removed it would look odd sans logo unless you had whole bunch of body work done.

go for it, if you like it.
the other day, I had someone ask, 'what's that car?'
if you have a problem taking the time to tell them,
then debadging may not be for you.
and do that site search to see what others have
done and think about it.

jimmer! looks nice!!! I have those black pearl emblems on my Pebble Beach and I really like how they blend in so I wouldn't do it to mine, however on my absolutely red 02 I considered it just to tone down the bling on it.

Well, I dd it. It was easy and after I got the adhesive off the car I finished it up with some scratch X remover. The scratch remover took quite a bit of the noticeability off the trunk. I am pretty pleased!

congratulations, and now, photos, pls.
if you have any residual scratches,
use a buffer with a mild polish like mgp.

I have heard that Goo Gone is good for removing adhesive residue. Let the emblems heat up in the sun to ease removal.

Yeah, that's what I used after using some floss to get the emblems off. I have an 2002 so the glue has been on for a while, so when taking off the emblems, it left a slight outline which is still visible now, but only noticeable up close.

I debadged my '02 last summer. There was a ghost image that was only noticeable up close. I didn't have any polish, so I used scratch remover (which is really just a mild polish) followed by wax and it eventually came out completely.

I think that 'ghosting' is a natural result of debadging.
once polished and buffed, it goes.
this pic is how my result looked before polishing.

I'm going to do it soon.

Hairdryer, Floss, Goo-Gone, Meguiar's Scratch X, Meguia's Gold Class Wax, Microfiber towel.

Am I missing anything?

How about the plastic scrapper or the monofilament (fishing line, or I see someone said floss) and two blocks of wood, not sure about needing those, for removing the emblems. Don't forget the "L" in the center (I think, not real sure) has two pins, so there will be two holes. I believe that is why everyone leaves it. Hope all turns out well, and if you don't like it you can always reinstall.

I just debadged mine.. taking it off was no problem, but sitting there and scrapping the residue off was something else. I used Goo-Gone which loosens up the residue, but it was still a PITA to remove.

There definitely was some ghosting afterwards, but after washing the section with soap and water and then going over it with Meguiar's Scratch X removed all the ghosting. Add a layer of wax to top it off and it looks smooth and clean.

Oh yeah, I didn't have a scraper so I used a flat head screwdriver wrapped in a towel and removed the residue this way. It helped x10.

Here is a clip from a post you can search for to make it look like black pearl, and you can turn them back if you choose. Best of both worlds. With this stuff you can paint it right on the car and just peal off overspray before it dries.
