Burping sound from radio

My radio has started making some pretty loud semi static semi burping noises every few minutes. It almost sounds like it is coming throught the ac vent? When I press the rds button it finds stations, and the noise goes away. I can't figure out how to save this, so I repeat it every time I start the car...maybe the main antenna, which doesn't appear to be fully extending like it used to...any thoughts or similar experiences?
