Default Unexpected offer

You might remember that I had a blowout that damaged the rear quarter to the tune of $2K. It is supposed to be ready to pick up tomorrow afternoon . I called to be sure it is on schedule-it is. An hour later I got a call from the shop owner wanting to know if I was willing to sell. After infatically saying NO, and explaining while it is an 02, it only has 31K miles and is under warranty until 2015 with zero deductable. The length of warranty has a lot to do with my minimum length that I plan on ownership. She dwelled on how interested she was and told me anytime in the future I wanted to sell, call her. Frankly, I was stunned and didn't think about what price tag I would put on her. On the other hand it might then look like I might be interested. Considering I have a Luxlink that works great and have AV jacks that allows me to play DVD's and IPOD and I have a back-up camera, Why would I want any other SC? Asking me to sell after going without her for two weeks didn't help either. I cant wait until tomorrow!

KEEP HER! This car will be a classic someday. Not to mention how much we love our cars now. Would hate for you to sell and then regret it later.

I had a similar experience when I took my '02 SC (38K) to have routine service at a third party provider a little while ago. I interpret the owner's interest as a sign that I had made a good purchase and I should hang on to it indefinitely. I would offer that you should do likewise.

I'll play devils advocate here...

I miss my 02 "Alexa" dearly red/ecru with 29k miles on her. She was perfect in every way and I loved her. I sold her for $24k last august and thought the same thing about another SC...what could it possibly offer me?

Well, the 2005+ started to interest me because of the bluetooth, then of course the 2006+. Then I started getting into (and posted a plethora of analysis of special edition SC information) the more limited production SC's and fell in love with the NM, the PB and obviously the Eternal Jewel.

IMO two or more SC's can be loved by the same person. See the case of me and AZKaty.

If the price is right...it's always for sale!

What OTHER SC would you own John if you didn't have your car? Do you care about bluetooth? 6speed manu-matic? New front and rear lights? What about a PB car? You love white...what about a 07 PB? The Mercury Metallic 09 PB is amazing!!!

Your car is obviously an amazing car, but you have loved her, modded her and enjoyed her. What's more fun than that? Selling her for a GREAT price and getting another different SC and starting it all over again!!!

I have to comment that I've truly enjoyed making Ebony more customized than I did Alexa and I'm not done yet with her. But...I am getting restless and unless I find that 997 Carrera, Maserati Spyder or SL65 for a STEAL, more than likely I will probably get the 07 PB my dream car before it's all said and done for SC's and me.

Just my two cents. You cannot go wrong either way. It's a good problem to have!

Default Good points droptop

You make a lot of valid points, droptop. On the other hand, I bought this Sc when it was 6 years old and had only 23K miles on it. Obviously, I don't mind buying used. Out of my 3 cars I own now, 2 out of 3, I bought new. I don't like being the guy who eats all the depreciation. Cost of annual is so much lower with a used car! Secondly, You read my mind the 07 PB is my ultimate car, but I am a patient man. Just like finding my 02, I will find an 07 when the time is right. BTW, our 02 was the perfect compromise-my wife and I love the color combo, whereas she hates red interiors. This is however, is my car-she has her infiniti, which she loves. I would say I will be in the market in 20013-15. Until then I am still in love with both my girls.

Yeah, the thing about Pebble Beach cars is that you have to LOVE red interior because it is everywhere! Unlike other red interior cars (SL65, SLK's, Mustangs, Vettes, G37) who have just a little taste of red on the door panels and the seats only and everything else is black. But again, that's what makes the Pimento red interior so cool...and so RED!

07 PB has to be the prettiest SC ever made hands down. I hope you voted on our new poll!!!

I always look for 07 PB's and I have found about three 20-30k mileage cars lately in the lower $30k's price range. One was for $31k on eBay. There is one for $34k right now. I am so tempted to trade Ebony, but I think I will wait for a super-cream-puff with low low mileage...like under 10k!
