Default new brake rotors with almost new pads, yes or no?

changed my brake pads 3 weeks ago and now I need new rotors. Can I use the same old pads or should I go with new ones when I replace the rotors? thanks for the help!

Have someone measure the pads and see if the lack of rotors has caused the pads to work overtime. Sometimes when rotors are shot, cars chew up pads. I'd measure to be sure. More than likely (unless you did some serious driving in three weeks!) I would say no.

I always put new pads on when I put new rotors on my cars. For the extra few $$ it gives me peace of mind and makes it easier to track when I did the service since they are together. That way I'm not pulling the wheels and calipers off multiple times either.

If it has only been three weeks and there are no problems it is a waste to put new pads on just because you put new rotors on. The pad is the sacrificial component and will mate to the new rotor very quickly. I am curious though. Why didn't you put the new rotors on when you put the pads on. Certainly they didn't just go in three weeks.

I you are to reuse the pads, I would suggest rubbing the friction surface on a flat surface with some emery cloth or sand paper. That way you'll know the pads will have a flat surface to mate with the new rotors.

I am curious as well, why didn't you replace the rotors at the same time?

This issue is not time (three weeks) but rather use. Unless you are using your SC430 as part of a taxi fleet, it would seem like the number of stops would be minimal such that the pads are probably AOK.
