Default (5) Speed or (6) Speed???

Those of you who have driven both. Which do you prefer? The 5 or the 6...Many who have driven like the 5. They say it is more peppy and quick. Feels like sports car. The ones who like the 6 say gas milage is a little better and the fast has great pick up.

I think there is also different suspension to consider.

It's true I don't know for, just from what I read on early post. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...fter-ride.html

There was recently an info survey (in Car Chat IIRC) where they polled owners of 5 and 6 speed SC's and the 5 speeds had less problems

I like the 5speed. I have commented on my ownership of two 2002-2005 SC430's and my quest to buy a 2006 was thwarted by the feeling of boredom with the not-so-sporty 6speed ES type shifter in the 2006+. I also polled 2006+ owners at the time and many of them said they didn't use it nor did they think it was terribly sporty. I wish they would have put a GS/IS type of shifter in the SC versus the taller more restricted one they did. Paddles would have been AWESOME. Coulda woulda shoulda, right?

Whenever I rev up the c-gate to 5k, 5500, 6k and shift...it's BLAST!!!

It certainly could have been the two or three 2006+ cars I drove, not necessarily all of them, but the six speed in manual mode was not as fun as shifting the 2002-2005 cars. Just one man's opinion though.

I've owned both an '03 and now an '06. Can't say there's a real difference with the exception of the tiptronic. When shifting manually the car has a bit more get up and go. On the whole I appreciate the '06 upgrades, esp. the reprogrammed ecu. Car has better launch performance.

THX all....I think my Mom will enjoy the 6 speed. She'll only use the shifter when she's in the mtn(s) here in CO.

5 speed is easier to self service than the 6 speed.

Can you explain that? I'm not sure I understand what you mean.
Thanks,

You can easily drop the tranny fluid and do a service (quite easy to do yourself) on the 5 speed. The 6 speed tranny is a sealed for life tranny and to service them you need to take it to a specialist to get them service.

It most probably ok for most people in the states as servicing is quite cheap. This is different to owners in other countries such as Australia, Hong Kong, even China.

I always thought at oils are cheap and engines and transmissions are expensive. So changing oil regularly save me in the long run.

Thanks, wasn't sure where you were going. I haven't dropped a tranny in over 30 years so excuse my braincramp.
