Dead--really dead--battery: This is my first try with a battery tender and the SC. When I plug it into the cigar lighter jack, the climate control panel illuminates and the clock starts keeping time (at 1:00). The car key is in my pocket, not in the ignition switch. What goes here? Why does the panel illuminate without the key in the ignition (it did not previously)? Has the car developed a new electrical fault? Will I do the car any harm if I charge the battery in this manner? Nothing's easy anymore . . . .

I don't recall if the cigarette lighter is on all the time. but I guess it is if your stack is lighting up. Or is it possible, that it is not on and you are only powering on the same circuit (bypassing the ignition)?
Do the lights on the tender tell you that the battery is connected properly?

I had the exact same idea for using the tender on my SC. Unfortunately using the lighter adapter will NOT charge the battery. I discovered this fact the same way you did and had to go to the clips directly on the battery under the hood. But, on more positive note, it great for playing the radio while the ignition is off and not draining the battery.

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately, I have a Porsche battery tender--without clips (from an old, gone-but-not-forgotten 911 SC), so it looks like a trip to Autozone is called for. And no, the light on the tender is not on, proving, I guess, that you guys are spot-on. Any additional input? As I said, nothing's easy anymore . . .
