Default Company selling me used SC!

Okay...my company is selling me a 2002 SC430 with 54,000 miles on it driven by the owner who's 73 years old. The car is in mint shape and they're giving me what I think is a great deal at $15,000. What I understand is that it's a low number car for the year. Not sure if that's important or not? I'm hoping to do most service needs myself. Does Lexus use Synthetic even back in 2002? Anyway, I fly down this Friday the 1st of October to Florida and drive it back home to Vermont. Wish me luck!

If you are asking whether Lexus recommends synthetic oil for the cars, the answer is no. If I were to venture a guess, most owners do use synthetic oil but not all. Not all Lexus service advisors will tell you to use synthetic oil either, the ones that I've talked to said that standard oil is just fine.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your SC430 (we all enjoy ours).

There's a thief amongst us! That's a GREAT deal. You are virtually stealing the owner's ride. Kelley Blue Book values that car at $20,500 to $21,500. Congratulations. Enjoy your new ride.

And if you change your mind I am sure there are a few of us who would buy it as a "spare"!!! Cool deal! Congrats on a find!

Sounds like a great deal. I wish I had worked for a company like that. Have a safe ride home this weekend. May you enjoy many carefree miles with your new ride. And welcome to the SC family.

That is a great deal. Even if it had been in an accident and repaired, that's still a good price.

As for the oil, I don't think there's much point using synthetic. It makes sense in something like a 4 cylinder turbo or even a 6 cylinder. They're running at much higher RPMs to generate the same power. Our cars rarely go over 4000 RPMs. So you don't need it.

Don't forget though, Synthetic is for more than high revs. It is for extreme heat and cold....read Vermont. Because it has better viscosity than dino oil. I run syn. in every one of my vehicles. Cheap insurance. Great deal on the ride BTW!!
