The only reason I ask is Sewell recommends replacing the shims and the springs at the time of pad replacement. I have never replaced shims unless they came with the pads and this is the first car I have owned that had anti squeal springs. I mean, what can wear out on a shim.

As long as someone hasn't put aftermarket pads on it and thrown the shim kit away (seen it plenty of times), you should be able to reuse the shims and springs.

I brought mine to the dealership and they said I have to replace front anti squeal shims to get rid of the nasty squeal. They said if I got new pads, I would still have to replace the anti squeal shims. I feel like they just bsed me. I got akebonos for my last car and they came with the shims. Lexus told me the anti squeal shims dont come with new pads. About $200 for parts and labor.

Put yourself in the shops shoes. They guarantee work, if you have a issue you will bring it back in, and you'll probably be upset. They are going to do everything they can to make sure you are happy with their repair. They don't want to do the job twice on their dime. So yes they want to put new shims, springs, and hardware on when they do a job. Is it ok to reuse those parts if functioning properly, yes. Is the repair shop going to reuse them, most won't especially not a dealership.
