Default Rear Bumper black molding near tire

I recently got my rear bumper replaced after a small fender bender. When I received my car back, I noticed a strange area on the bumper near the tire where the black molding is missing. I have attached a picture of the passenger and driver side.

Can anyone take a picture of their car in the same section and let me know if there is black molding that should be adhesive there? I circled it in red on the photos.

BTW this is for my 2006 SC430.

Thanks,

Jimmy

Default Fresh from the body shop

I had a blow out and had rear quarter damage-I got it back about a month ago. I trust my shop and believe they put it back the way it should be. These photos are all taken behind the rear drivers side tire. Hope this helps.

Thanks John. That is what I was looking for. I contacted the repair shop and they said it was not something included in my original bumper. Will get back to them and have them replace the missing pieces.

I just took a look at my 2006 front bumper and it looks the same. I'm not the original owner so I can't be sure it's the original bumper.

However, it looks just like yours. The rubber stops at the fender-bumper parting line and the bumper "simulates" its continuance with a relief in its surface along the edge of the wheel well.

Molding stops at the bumper cover. It should be secured to the fender by screws as shown is the partial diagram from the Sewell parts website.

Hey Bob - Thanks for the picture. I am actually referring to the back bumper not the front as in the image you provided. The picture that I posted actually has the indentation of what looks like a rubber moulding that should belong there.

Below is the bumper diagram, but I don't see a moulding part number but my original pictured outlined in red shows the space where it looks like the moulding belongs. Even the pictures provided by Solman shows the same thing I referring to.

OK ... after digging around I found the diagram for side moldings and I also inspected my car, BUT it is a 2002 model. Here are my thoughts, at least for the 02 version which I believe is the same for the 06.

Whoever did your the paint on the fender/bumper cover did it wrong. The portion of the bumper cover is suppose to be black or actually UNPAINTED and is designed to match up with the fender trim piece, giving the appearance of a continuous trim, at the seam between it and the rear quarter panel.

You can seen from the Lexus diagram I've attached there is no side molding piece on the "bumper cover", front or rear at the wheel well. What you should see on close inspection is a "fine line" or edge, actually molded into the cover delineating where the color should change from body color to the original part color or black. The edge is NOT the 1/8 rounded surface it's actually a sharp edge you should be able to feel with your finger or fingernail.

BTW while you're looking you should check and see if the wheel "spat", (part #75862C on the diagram) is there. Sometimes the part does not make it back on if it was removed or damaged. The spat is there to reduce air turbulence and direct wind flow away from the wheel well. Hope this helps you out, sorry about the confusion on the front wheel.

My fault, I'm the one that started the confusion on the front fender. Mea Culpa, mea culpa.

Nothing is missing since nothing is there in the first place.
Your body shop should have masked that portion you have red circled it with tapes and left it unpainted.

Thanks everyone! Looks like they painted more than they should have. It just stood out to me where as it didn't before. It all make sense. I'll get back to my body shop and have them restore that section.

Yeah, it probably sticks out like as sore thumb or a misaligned part due to the sudden stop of "trim". It's the reason you noticed it right away, your eye is drawn to the contrast.
