Radio Replacement

Radio Replacement
I like the sound of my ML system in my 2003 SC430, but I hate the lack of features...specifically ipod integration, bluetooth hands-free and Sat radio. Is there any way to swap out my stock Mark Levinson head unit with one that would do the above?

This is a pretty popular question and one that's been discussed quite a few times around here.
Check out these threads...a small sampling.

One big thing to keep in mind...having the stereo replaced is no big deal. Having the stereo replaced and keeping factory navigation functionality IS a big deal!

You MIGHT be able to pull off that swap...but the biggest obstacle is the price. The dealership wants an INSANE amount of money for a replacement head unit.
For the $1,500.00+ price tag, you could buy a awfully nice aftermarket system AND have it installed.

+1 on the aftermarket route. That may even be a plus when you go to sell it eventually, unless the buyer is a purist and only wants all OEM components. Personally, I'd take looks and practicality over original parts any day.

The secret to replacing the head unit is the integration unit. I highly recommend the Beat-Sonic MVA-12L or 13L depending on your year model. I have a 2004 so I used the 12-L. It retained most of the functionality of the steering wheel controls and intergration to the Mark Levenson amp. Navigation system still works flawlessly. Down side is the price. Because it is a "vertical market" product I paid $430 for it. Lets face it, it's a Lexus and we need to keep things at the Lexus standard of quality.

I just replaced the radio on my 2004 SC430, and the Beat Sonic is the only way to go for 2004 and older because the units changed in 2005. I have researched this heavily, and Vias Tech, Parrot, and Metra will not work for the years I just listed. Once you ad the Beat sonic adapter, you can ad any radio you want. Since I only use the car with the top down, I did not do a touch screen, I did a double din Kenwood DPX501bt. good radio for the money, and Best Buy will match any price online. I live on So Ca, so check out Viejo Auto Stereo, they did an awesome install, and good prices. I have my OEM head unit for sale if anyone is interested, message me please.

Harold, you can see a picture on the Viejo Auto Stereo face book page. I am not the greatest photographer. I can post another pic. I chose the kenwood, because I liked all of the features, I also looked at pioneer and jvc. I am still playing with it, and learning how everything works.
